Sanyo presents its new GPS navigation device, the NVM-4030. NVM-4030 is a portable, voice-guided GPS system which has a 4-inch touch sensitive LCD along with built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling. It is pre-loaded with over a million destinations of interest all saved on the system’s 1GB SD card which can also be used to store MP3s and WMAs for playback. The device is priced at $399.

Update the maps using Navteq downloads. Don’t mess around trying to find USB drivers, use the SD card to put the downloaded file. If you want an AC adapter, go to EBay and buy a PSP adapter for cheap. There are always workarounds. If you had read the Sanyo website, they clearly state that they use Navteq mapping software, why make more work for yourself?
Mod your NVM-4030 into a full featured PDA , Play movies on it and more!

I just sent you an email from my client, please leave a note indicating that your blog is invitation only.
The Sanyo NVM-4030 works well enough for simple navigation with the maps provided. It responds to changes and reroutes quickly and correctly.
That said, I purchased a new TomTom One XL today, and am about to return the Sanyo. I got fed up trying to get any assistance with their “support” line. No one there could tell me anything more than what was in the manual, which is no help at all on several areas. The last straw was when I called asking about maps other than the US and Canada, or even updating those maps as they become outdated. The tech with whom I spoke said that, as far as he knew, there was no plan to provide either of those. My response was, “then you don’t plan to support the device,” to which he replied, “oh yes, we’re going to support it.” When, I wonder?
The TomTom cost me about $150 more, but it offers the option of a QWERTY onscreen keyboard layout, and has more maps available online.
Sanyo is shipping out its next version EasyStreet NVM-4070 & NVM-4050. http://www.itechnews.net/2007/.....#more-7131
The NVm-4050 seems to be almost the same as the NVM-4030 with a better looking case and 1.8 million poi as opposed to the 1.5 million poi as the NVM-4030.
How does the NVM-4030 work? Can you tell me do the routing & re-routing work well? What don’t you like about it? Thank you for your input!
This weekend (7/13/2007), Fry’s Electronics has this unit for $199 – at least, in Houston stores. I picked one up this evening, and got it up and running without opening any docs. Pretty neat. It has some irritations, but the Sanyo Web site doesn’t appear to offer any feedback channels, so there’s no way to help them improve their products.
