I bought one of these about a month ago, it’s a great tv! I have it hooked up to a custom PC and it runs 120 hertz refresh rate which is glorious! I have had 3 issues, most likely not wide spread over the model line… just things I need to iron out with Samsung tech support. When I enter the main tv menu the Picture and Sound buttons are invisible, regardless of what input I’m on. Second is on HDMI inputs 1 & 2, which are my xbox 360 & playstation 3 respectively, the hdmi loses the handshake at random intervals while I’m playing and I have to turn the tv off and back on again to regain picture/sound. The last is in my eyes the most serious. Early last week the tv stopped supporting 1920×1080 resolution. Anytime I set my computer to that resolution on the PC input the tv loses picture and flashes the message “Mode Not Supported.” Since I bought this for the main purpose of use as a 1920×1080 resolution Media PC Monitor it’s very frustrating. Over all the performance is excellent and the features are great, but I’m disappointed in the flaws I’ve run into.

I too plan to use this as a computer monitor, there your experience is most interesting. I have the impression that the monitor initall did support 1080p. Is this correct? Have you resoved this issue?

My experience has been a bit of a hassle actually. I’ve been on the phone with both levels 1 & 2 of Samsung’s tech support. Long story short I was told a tech would be out to replace 2 electronic boards & perform any updates necessary. The tech never showed up and actually called to tell me he wasn’t authorized for my area. I had to call Samsung back and get another scheduled repair date. Since I wall mounted this TV I have to take it down for service. I brought up that I had paid for a new TV, and could have saved a $1000.00 buying a refurbished TV which is what I feel I have now. They disregarded this completely (understandably, it’s retail sales after all). Once again they would not give me contact information for the tech servicer that was supposed to come out. I was furnished with “the company will call you and inform you of your time frame for Tuesday.” Hopefully they actually call this time. Admittedly I could have taken care of things a little more quickly on my end but the majority of the problems surfaced about 3-4 weeks ago and I’ve had it for 3 months now. In hind sight I wish I’d gone with Sharps 52D92U 120 hz refresh rate, which has DVI instead of VGA. I’ve had better service luck with them (sharp) in the past than this fiasco I’ve been through with Samsung.

    John,

Were they able to solve the problem.

Are the replacement board the answer or is there an update to the firmware required ??

    Thanks

They have been out or attempted to come out 3 times now. The tv is still not fixed. The most recent attempt: Samsung didn’t forward enough information to the Technician & he ended up coming out with a power supply instead of a main board. I was promised by Samsung that an executive level supervisor would call me last Friday and a TV swap was hinted at. I have yet to hear from them.
The technician that came out explained that it is a universal problem with their first batch of tvs and he’s been replacing a lot of the main boards. The tech on the most recent phone call said there isn’t an update to the firmware.
Still waiting on a resolution. I don’t know that I’ll ever buy a Samsung product again. That’s saying a lot since I have a Samsung cell phone, computer monitors, tvs and a few other things.

I purchased my 52″ Samsung in June. It worked fine until the beginning of December when it would not turn on. So far, they’ve replaced the mother board and it still does not work. Our TV has been down nearly one month with no resolution.

I have a samsung that is a tad over a year old and same thing. Repair shop wants $350 for a new pc board in the power supply.
Seems like a lot of these are going.

A resolution was finally reached. A few weeks after my last post a tech came out and replaced the entire main board and a few other things. Also installed the newest firmware and did a bunch of tweaks to the settings to improve the picture. The standard settings looked terrible. All I can say is… I’m so glad I got the extended warranty. I can’t believe they released a product in the shape they did with the mass problems this one appears to have. If it was an option to get a full refund and repurchase within another brand line, I would. If I could have foreseen the problems I would have walked a wide circle around this one to the next manuf.
