Hey All,
The problems are with the start up and discharge 1000 Microfarad capacitors on your power supply. Open up the TV and I’ll be 3 to 5 of the capacitors are leaking. Check out this YouTube video to learn how to diagnose and replace those caps. This is courtesy of Gonefishin09.
Enjoy.

Many, if not all issues have been resolved by replacing the caps, or replacing the power supply board.
One Poster discovered his TV with a similar problem. But the TV was a (Samsung HP-T4254). He found a poor solder at a transistor. Purchased a new card and found the same problem. He touched it up with a solder iron and back in business. The set would also click and not turn on. But, the board could be flexed, making contact with the transistor, and the set would turn on. This also eventually blew the transistor all together. If you experience this problem, let me know and I’ll send a pic showing the transistor location.
Poster can let me know if I translated the scope properly.
I’ve had a Samsung LNS 5296D LCD for just under 2-yrs. The set will not power-up. The Samsung service rep. confirmed that it is leaking caps in the power supply, which as noted is a common problem. The set has now been down for 1-month, as the service comapny cannot locate a replacement power supply. The set was on the wall, but is now lying on the living room floor, as it’s too heavy to keep lifting on and off the wall. I’d replace the failed cap’s myself, but the set is covered by an extended warranty from Visa and I dont want to invalidate it. This is my last Samsung product.
Purchased my LN32A330, 32″ widescreen in June ‘08, 720p. I noticed it was slow to turn on but thought it maybe it was normal for this product. Last night, I turned it off before bed and it will not come on anymore. My wife told me the green light blinks once, no picture, no sound. It’s always been plugged into a surge protect and has been taken care of. Will see what Samsung says.
Reported it to Samsung, they sent a local tech out 2 days later and my TV is fine. Great all around service from Samsung.
Two weeks ago, my LN-T5265F started taking longer and longer to turn on. The power light comes on and off and clicks during the process. It was recently taking up to two hours before it would turn on. Now, it will not come on at all. I have not called Samsung yet because I fear bursting a vein when they tell me there is nothing they can do because the set is now 13 months old. What a waste of $3K. Any suggestions to work around this issue? I am an electronic technician and am considering opening it up.
Bill,
Our Samsung LNT 5265F is having the same problems, unfortunately, the tv is two months out of warranty. Has your problem been resolved, if so, what was the solution?
Pam,
The issue has been resolved. I removed the back of the TV (pretty easy actually) by laying a blanket over the kitchen table and placing the TV face down. I started with the power supply as an obvious beginning. Both fuses on the board tested fine. And touched up every solder joint with a hot soldering iron in case the problem was a cold solder joint. After this painstaking venture, I performed another visual inspection and noticed a capacitor that had a thin black X on the top of the can. This is a common sign the capacitor has over heated. I located a replacement for $1.20, installed, and successfully powered up the TV. I have had no problems since.
Oh, yeah, I also paid $120 for a BN44-00150A replacement power supply, plus overnight shipping. It actually arrived three weeks later. That was two weeks and six days after I fixed the power supply myself.
Feel free to email me if you would be interested in the power supply, or more information to fix the set yourself. I will part with the power supply at half price if it will help you.

where is that capacitor located? having same problem with our tv. im an auto technician repair specialist and should be able to replace capacitor. its taking 5 hrs to go on! really irritating. thanks
I’ve got the same problem. It’s now taking 15 minutes for the tv to turn on. Samsung won’t do anything since the tv is 15 months old. Where did you purchase the power board?
Hi, I have the same problem with the power supply. Did you figure out if its the power supply or the capacitor?
I am having exactly the same problem. I am removing the back now. Do you still have that power supply available? If not, can you tell me where to order for that price?
Sorry, I have not checked this forum in awhile, but have provided information to a few via email, who now have working TV’s. Let me know if you still need any info. billdozier@gmail.com
I pulled the back off and decided to try and solder the capacitors in myself (from Radioshack). When I got done, it worked!
i need to fix mine help which capacitor
Charlie,
email me at billdozier@gmail.com so I can send you some pictures. I have not spent the time to determine if I can add them to the post.
Charlie, if you need help, let me know. I am thinking of putting together a manual to explain step by step how to do it, with pictures. I was a little afraid of the job, but it was easier than I thought.
David,
Great idea. I recently thought it would be nice to post a U Tube video. But, I do not foresee taking mine back apart to video the repair. I have to many other honey-do’s at at the moment.

While many, if not all, have the same power supply, have resolved the problem by replacing the caps, and some by replacing the power supply.
One poster had a different TV (Samsung HP-T4254)and found poor soldering on a transistor. The TV would turn on and off at times, specifically when the board was flexed. But would act the same while off by clicking without ever turning on. Let me know if you have this issue and I will email you a pic showing the transistor location.

A resolution was finally reached. A few weeks after my last post a tech came out and replaced the entire main board and a few other things. Also installed the newest firmware and did a bunch of tweaks to the settings to improve the picture. The standard settings looked terrible. All I can say is… I’m so glad I got the extended warranty. I can’t believe they released a product in the shape they did with the mass problems this one appears to have. If it was an option to get a full refund and repurchase within another brand line, I would. If I could have foreseen the problems I would have walked a wide circle around this one to the next manuf.
I have a samsung that is a tad over a year old and same thing. Repair shop wants $350 for a new pc board in the power supply.
Seems like a lot of these are going.
I purchased my 52″ Samsung in June. It worked fine until the beginning of December when it would not turn on. So far, they’ve replaced the mother board and it still does not work. Our TV has been down nearly one month with no resolution.
They have been out or attempted to come out 3 times now. The tv is still not fixed. The most recent attempt: Samsung didn’t forward enough information to the Technician & he ended up coming out with a power supply instead of a main board. I was promised by Samsung that an executive level supervisor would call me last Friday and a TV swap was hinted at. I have yet to hear from them.
The technician that came out explained that it is a universal problem with their first batch of tvs and he’s been replacing a lot of the main boards. The tech on the most recent phone call said there isn’t an update to the firmware.
Still waiting on a resolution. I don’t know that I’ll ever buy a Samsung product again. That’s saying a lot since I have a Samsung cell phone, computer monitors, tvs and a few other things.
John,
Were they able to solve the problem.
Are the replacement board the answer or is there an update to the firmware required ??
Thanks
My experience has been a bit of a hassle actually. I’ve been on the phone with both levels 1 & 2 of Samsung’s tech support. Long story short I was told a tech would be out to replace 2 electronic boards & perform any updates necessary. The tech never showed up and actually called to tell me he wasn’t authorized for my area. I had to call Samsung back and get another scheduled repair date. Since I wall mounted this TV I have to take it down for service. I brought up that I had paid for a new TV, and could have saved a $1000.00 buying a refurbished TV which is what I feel I have now. They disregarded this completely (understandably, it’s retail sales after all). Once again they would not give me contact information for the tech servicer that was supposed to come out. I was furnished with “the company will call you and inform you of your time frame for Tuesday.” Hopefully they actually call this time. Admittedly I could have taken care of things a little more quickly on my end but the majority of the problems surfaced about 3-4 weeks ago and I’ve had it for 3 months now. In hind sight I wish I’d gone with Sharps 52D92U 120 hz refresh rate, which has DVI instead of VGA. I’ve had better service luck with them (sharp) in the past than this fiasco I’ve been through with Samsung.
I too plan to use this as a computer monitor, there your experience is most interesting. I have the impression that the monitor initall did support 1080p. Is this correct? Have you resoved this issue?
I bought one of these about a month ago, it’s a great tv! I have it hooked up to a custom PC and it runs 120 hertz refresh rate which is glorious! I have had 3 issues, most likely not wide spread over the model line… just things I need to iron out with Samsung tech support. When I enter the main tv menu the Picture and Sound buttons are invisible, regardless of what input I’m on. Second is on HDMI inputs 1 & 2, which are my xbox 360 & playstation 3 respectively, the hdmi loses the handshake at random intervals while I’m playing and I have to turn the tv off and back on again to regain picture/sound. The last is in my eyes the most serious. Early last week the tv stopped supporting 1920×1080 resolution. Anytime I set my computer to that resolution on the PC input the tv loses picture and flashes the message “Mode Not Supported.” Since I bought this for the main purpose of use as a 1920×1080 resolution Media PC Monitor it’s very frustrating. Over all the performance is excellent and the features are great, but I’m disappointed in the flaws I’ve run into.
