I am the chief engineer for a large school district. We bought four of these and they are all dead because of bad electrolytic capacitors in the switching power supplies. Failure occurred in all these units around 1500 hours of operation.

We also had the same problem. After reading this my husband went and purchased new capacitors and supplies. We replaced them yesterday, took about 45 min. Tv started right up...good as new. Thanks so much for the great advice. TV comes on first try.

I had the same problem that everyone else had. The power would cycle on and off. It would turn on after a couple of minutes with purple dots on the screen. If I cycled the power again it the dots would disappear. I opened it up and found 2 of the 5 1000uf capacitors were starting to leak on the power supply. I went to radio shack and purchased 5 35v 1000uf capacitors and replaced all five capacitors. They are bigger but I got them to work. The TV now works good as new. No purple dots and it comes on again on the first try.

I too, was experiencing similar problems with my TV taking longer and longer to turn on. The power light comes on and off and clicks during the process. It started with two boot cycles and then up to four before getting a picture. The other night the TV restarted during a program and would not come back with a picture. Turned the TV off for a few hours, but could not get a picture. The same the next morning. Took the TV apart and noticed two capacitors on the power supply were split across the "X" and three were buldging. All capacitors were (10V, 1000uf,, 105 degrees celcius. Replaced the five capacitors and the TV is working without any issues. Thanks for the advice. Total cost of repair $2.31 CND.

There are some capacitors that need to be replaced. I resoldered in two of mine that looked bad with capacitors from Radio Shack that cost only a few dollars.

Hey All,

The problems are with the start up and discharge 1000 Microfarad capacitors on your power supply. Open up the TV and I'll be 3 to 5 of the capacitors are leaking. Check out this YouTube video to learn how to diagnose and replace those caps. This is courtesy of Gonefishin09.

Enjoy.

David,
Great idea. I recently thought it would be nice to post a U Tube video. But, I do not foresee taking mine back apart to video the repair. I have to many other honey-do's at at the moment.

Charlie, if you need help, let me know. I am thinking of putting together a manual to explain step by step how to do it, with pictures. I was a little afraid of the job, but it was easier than I thought.

FOLLOW UP.
Many, if not all issues have been resolved by replacing the caps, or replacing the power supply board.

One Poster discovered his TV with a similar problem. But the TV was a (Samsung HP-T4254). He found a poor solder at a transistor. Purchased a new card and found the same problem. He touched it up with a solder iron and back in business. The set would also click and not turn on. But, the board could be flexed, making contact with the transistor, and the set would turn on. This also eventually blew the transistor all together. If you experience this problem, let me know and I'll send a pic showing the transistor location.

Poster can let me know if I translated the scope properly.

FOLLOW UP
While many, if not all, have the same power supply, have resolved the problem by replacing the caps, and some by replacing the power supply.

One poster had a different TV (Samsung HP-T4254)and found poor soldering on a transistor. The TV would turn on and off at times, specifically when the board was flexed. But would act the same while off by clicking without ever turning on. Let me know if you have this issue and I will email you a pic showing the transistor location.
