CECT P168 - iPhone Clone
by Sze | Filed under Mobile Phone, Smartphone.
You probably have heard of the Meizu MiniOne, which is an Apple iPhone clone (though the specification is better). Here is another iPhone clone from China, the CECT P168.
The CECT P168 looks really like the iPhone, even the wallpaper has been copied. The CECT P168 has a 3.5-inch QVGA LCD touchscreen, a 2 Megapixel camera (actual resolution: 1.3 Megapixel). It has integrated music player, video player, dictionary.
The CECT P168 has two SIM card slot, unfortunately you can’t use the two SIMs at the same time but have to switch between them.

Confirmed! A88 is TRI-BAND phone!! The 850 MHz band doesn’t work, AGAIN! This is a very nice phone. If you don’t use 850 band, buy it here: http://www.ioffer.com/i/43408896

WELL - China screwed us again. I have tested the A88 in the 850 area and it is just like the P168 “quad band” phone. It shows all 4 bands in the engineering but does not work in the 850 MHz area. Too bad as it is a very sweet phone. The T-mobile peope will be thrilled since they dont use 850.

A88 REAL QUAD BAND GSM DUAL SIM TOUCH SCREEN CELL PHONE for sale
http://www.ioffer.com/i/43408896
850 band tested!!
March 11th, 2008 at 8:02 am
I have the new A88 for sale now at http://www.zydaglo.com and it is almost the same phone as the P168 except that it has 1 button and looks like the iphone. The engineering settings are the same. This phone is supposed to be a quad band - I say supposed to be because I do not have the 850 band here to test it. Until I get one tested, I cannot be sure even though the factory swears it is. if it is, this phone will replace the P168 in no time. It costs a bit more but it does POP3 email. Settings are the same for internet and SMS. Too bad the earphone adapter does not work. I need to get to designing a new one…

Ive had my phone for 2 months now… not happy with it though. Since it came with 2 batteries and a wall charger I switch out the batteries when the current one is getting low or about to die. Yesterday when I tried to do this, my battery had not charged and the screen said QUOTA USAGE WARNING with a countdown from 10. Has anyone experienced this problem? Now it has happened several times after i let it charge but Neither of my batteries will charge now and im trying to charge it with my USB cable. Please let me know if you have any knowledge on this problem.
March 8th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Ok… here’s the technical side… not believing the settings when I first discovered them about a month ago, I used my service monitor (I usually service Motorola HT equipment in the 900MHz Amateur Radio Band) and found the four distinct bands present on the transmit side. Though this doesn’t decisively prove the case, I think that it is pretty solid evidence. It is of course possible that the receive side is either deaf or non functional. Can’t imagine the motivation to do such a stupid thing however. The real test has been in using the P168 all over the country and virtually never being w/o coverage (in both rural and central areas).
There are mostly tribands out there and my suspicion about the SIM Emergency problem is that they have the wrong combination of bands for the person’s particular location. This is, by the way, the concensus of the forums on this topic. I haven’t experienced the problem so have no first hand knowledge. Bottom line is that I think you may be right in most cases. In the few where the phone actually has four functional bands, the setting may not be on Automatic. Would love to have more data on this one.

Bob - I take exeption with your advice. I have sold at least a thouand P168 phones and have never seen one that has all 4 bands working on them. I have so many customers who got the version that looks like a quad band and I have yet to speak to even one who got the 850 band to work on their phone. You are probably T-mobile, which does not use the 850 band very often. I can provide large quantities of people who will attest to this fact that just changing it in engineering will not work. If you have a real quad band, you are the first that I have met. The factory told me that when the 850 band did not work on what they thought would be a quad band, they re-engineered the 900 band to work as the 850 band so that phone with the 850 band did not have the 900 band at all. I would love to hear from someone who had emergency and after changing the engineering settings sudddenly had a working phone.
March 8th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Ok folks for the umpteenth time I repeat, the P168 I have has FOUR, count ‘em, bands. They are individually selectable or you can use the auto select.
If you are getting EMERGENCY then your phone is most probably not selecting the band being used by your provider in the area you are located, i.e. it cannot find the signal you have paid for.
It is possible to go into Engineering mode to change the band selection BUT I will caution you that changing setting can be very risky (i.e. it can turn your phone into a brick) SO do this carefully.
To get into engineering mode:
“please press *#3646633# and NETWORK SETTINGS then press BAND SELECTION”
You will then see the bands available. I will warn you that T-Mobile, bless their little hearts, has chosen to use the 850 band in some outlying areas, and many iClones do not have this band or do not have it enabled.
Use the above at your own risk. I suggest setting the band selection to AUTO. This works perfectly for me all over the US.
Good night and Good luck… bob(at)schmulian.net

I have the emergency as well and I need a replacement stylus but can’t find out where to buy one???????
March 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
THE P168 THAT I SELL DOES HAVE WORKING 850 BUT THERE IS NO 900. JUST BE CAREFUL TO GET A TRIBAND 850/1800/1900. THE NEW A88 IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE UPDATED P168 AND IT IS A QUADBAND. I WILL HAVE THEM MONDAY TO TEST AND HOPE TO HAVE A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE THIS WEEK.
March 8th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Is the p168 really GSM 850? I have searched and searched to only find conflicting information. One source says 850 others do not.

Hi
I have a P168 as well… But I find some of the features unsatisatisfying! For example my video-player isn’t playing the video fluently. It’s all fucked up! You all have the same problem?
Are there any updates for the phone yet, and if there is how do I install them?
I hope for some help, the phone is good, but some features are lacking!

i am trying to connect to the internet using at&t but it keep saying host unknown what do i need to do to resolve that issue
March 6th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Catherine: Take the time to start reading up above your question for answers. I already listed about as much as I can for T-Mobile. Good luck.
Marco:
Bob Schmulian sent me to eRightSoft to download the free converter called Super. I downloaded the file version 2007.7.7.3.2142, or whatever the free one they offer. In the first option it gives you, choose the first 3GP setting and don’t mess with the rest of default settings.
This is what Bob Schmulian posted earlier:
The best video converter is available free from
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
Not sure which one you are using but this one is superb. Just choose the first 3gp listing in the output container. Leave the other default settings alone.
For a car charger all you need to do is the go to Meritline.com and buy the Auto/usb charger (cheap)… choose the 1000MA one w/ free shipping. Then you can just use the cable which came w/ the phone.

Zen2: Put your email address and I will send you a PDF of the English manual.
Unless you are pulling my leg, attaching the USB cable to your phone and then to your computer is simple. Having the internet on doesn’t even figure into anything at this point. Try this simple method:
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Connect the USB cable to your computer FIRST.
3. Connect the other end now to your phone.
4. A screen will open up and asks you what you want to do with the device, and gives you options, choose Open Folder to view files.
THEN, you will be able to see your folders. If nothing is coming up when you attach the cable to the phone and then the computer (or the other way around, it doesn’t matter) you may have a bad cable. Zydaglo sells replacements cheap.
If you are not pulling our leg, that is…

Lissieanne… let’s do this offline. Here is the way to read the settings:
press *#3646633# and NETWORK SETTINGS then press BAND SELECTION.
Let me know what the band settings are.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO CHANGE ANYTHING.
Please reply to my email.

Does anyone know how to get on the internet with an iphone clone
March 4th, 2008 at 8:28 am
zen2:
Did any of those Vodafone settings work for you? As for the drivers, forget it. If your computer is hooked up to the internet and you hook up your phone, you will be asked by your phone if you want to connect in the three ways I listed above. Connecting as COM port won’t do you any good because no one yet has gotten the Operating System to a user-friendly level. Basically, don’t click on COM port, click on Mass Storage only. This will let you access your phone’s folders so you can add or subtract your personal goodies like music and videos.

Bob,
How do I get to the settings you are talking about and I will tell you what they say?
March 3rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
… the one I have is a true quad band w/ 850 plus the other three bands listed and individually selectable via Engineering Mode (risky). There is also an automatic selection available which chooses the appropriate band. I have travelled all over the UK and in the US and virtually never had trouble connecting to TMobile except on an Amtrak train in upstate NY. It would be interesting to know the Engineering Mode settings for your phone. I still believe that it is a band selection problem. It is possible, though very unlikely that there is something wrong w/ the phone on one of the bands.

I have the one Diane listed it is 850/1800/1900 and my local t-mobile office wasn’t much help. I have left the company I purchased it from on ebay a message but have not heard back from them.
March 3rd, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I hate to say it but there is not real quad band P168. the triband 850/1800/1900 phone is what you need.
March 3rd, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Re Lack of signal: The most likely reason is this: You are not set to use the band which TMobile is using in your area and the other people are. Particularly in rural areas, TMobile relies on other carriers (such as Cingular) to carry their traffic using the 850 band. Quad band phones (which some P168’s are) can be set to use this band. Triband models cannot. Which model to you have? This is really a question for the seller to answer. There is a way to check but it is risky since any error you make can make a mess out of your phone.
In my experience the P168 is very sensitive and receives well virtually everywhere. It’s highly unlikely that your friends have “better” reception. The SIM card has really nothing to do with it.
Bottom line is that I suggest you contact the seller and have him/her walk you through the steps to find out if you have a quad band and to set the band selection to “Automatic”.
Regards,
bob(at)schmulian.net
ps there are some who claim that there are no Quad Band P168’s… this is absolutely wrong…I have one myself.

Hey Jackson,
Maybe you can help me. I had put my sim card in my new cect p168 and got no service yesterday. I left for work this morning go half a mile down the road or so and picked up towers and was working. Now my old phone had been having trouble with signal lately but I have 2 other people in my house with t-mobile and they have great signal. I went and bought a new sim card thinking this might be part of my problem. Get home and no service again. I am stumped can you please help?
March 3rd, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Althea: Actually, it is GPRS, not GPS. The seller told you wrong if you were planning on using this phone as a navigation device. Sorry. Go hit him with the phone if he truly lied to you.
todd: Flip the phone with the back facing you, and rotate the camera so the side with the camera lens is towards you. Below where it should say Bluetooth is a dividing line. This is the top part of the back of the phone that slides down (or, if you are holding the phone the way I mentioned, away from you). It is pretty slick, so use your strength to get a good grip. It should slide right off and down. Then add your sim card into either slot, add the battery, slide the back cover on, turn on the phone and the phone will do the search for your sim and when your carrier pops up at the top of the screen, phone away!
Victor Ribeiro: Maybe that was on the P168 phone? I have the P168 and it has the 640×480 topoff you mentioned.

Help on how to open the back to install the battery and sims card.
