CECT P168 - iPhone Clone
by Sze | Filed under Mobile Phone, Smartphone.
You probably have heard of the Meizu MiniOne, which is an Apple iPhone clone (though the specification is better). Here is another iPhone clone from China, the CECT P168.
The CECT P168 looks really like the iPhone, even the wallpaper has been copied. The CECT P168 has a 3.5-inch QVGA LCD touchscreen, a 2 Megapixel camera (actual resolution: 1.3 Megapixel). It has integrated music player, video player, dictionary.
The CECT P168 has two SIM card slot, unfortunately you can’t use the two SIMs at the same time but have to switch between them.

Dalton - the original P168 does not have both working at the same time but the new one that came out a few days ago has both working at the same time now. It is not easy to get one of them. I can get the 850/1800/1900 band version for you but would have to dropship them to you. If interested, send me an email at sales@zydaglo.com

Azeeza Williams: Click on Home, then System, then Settings. At the bottom of the selections, second to last, you will find Restore Factory Settings. I have never had to do that with mine, so I have no idea what that selection offers after you click on it. I hate to sound like an broken record on this, but could it also be your battery? Do you watch your phone die, and if so, does the screen give you any kind of message? Sorry I can’t give you any better info than that. I have not had that problem so I can’t direct you too well in this section.

The newest version of the P168 still has the same buttons and looks the same but it now has both sim cards working at the same time. this version was released 2-3 days ago and is approximately the same price as the old version.

I will definetly let everyone here know how it works if it does not go back out. This forum is so much help for those who love this phone. As for the repairs it was 2 things that i had soldered. First it was the bus bar going from the LCD panel to the power connection (Battery terminals). And second the connection from the buttons (small ribbon type connection) to the board i notice a small burn kinda small to notice but then again i was staring at this thing for hours hahaha hope this helps anyone else out if in need of more info i will definetly oblige just leave a comment to me and i will post more info

yami_agenda: Holy crap! You, my dear, are a genius! I claim to be good with electonics in that I LOVE to take things apart and “try” to fix them. For instance, the old Sony Walkmans. Anyone remember those? lol take out the screws and pull out the tape that the rollers ate up, lube them, reinstall and you’re good to go. But opening up THIS phone with all the smaller components and practically NO movinging parts? You are my hero!
I am so happy that there are people out there like you who take the initiative to see if they can do the work themselves. Bravo to you.
What did you do to the faulty soldering that made it work now? Maybe taking it apart relieved pressure on a bad connection somewhere? Check back in here in a week or whatever and let us know what happens. Maybe it’s something others have dealt with and had no idea. Again, bravo to you!

Thanx for the info about shipping and yes it does happen with both batteries. I actually chalked it up to “having to purchase a new one” so i decided to just tear it apart ,which i probably will purchase a new one cause i love this phone. I work on computers as an carrer and am handy with electronics (mind you i have never tried working on a phone EVER lol)but i actually got it to work it was on the board the soldering had a small short and i took a magnifying glass and volt meter and started testing so thanx but its actually working as of now but hope it does not go back out

Rico Gmez: You have to add the 1 and the area code before your phone numbers in order to see who it is that is calling you. As for connecting to your computer, what is exactly happening? Once you plug in your USB cable, your phone should say Phone Charger Connected or something like that. Also, your computer should instantly let you know that your phone has been attached to it. What exactly happens in your instance? There is no software yet for this phone. We are all Java-less on this ride, my friend.
yami_agenda: Sorry to hear that. First off, try the cheap solution finder first. Get a new set of batteries for your phone. Chances are, you got a bum battery. Does the same happen with the other battery? You should have received two with your phone. How old is your phone? Do you have two batteries? If not, get some new ones and try them out. If they work, it was a bad set of first batteries. If the problem persists, then something is wrong with the phone and as cheap as they are getting, it may be cheaper to just get a new one instead of sending it away to be repaired.
Shipping it back to China is about $70 round trip, and add God knows how much to that for them to figure out the problem and then the cost to fix it.
Need some computer geniouses: God bless you, brother!
tawney and Tony: The pointer is located at the bottom right-hand side of the P168 as well as others of its like. Use your fingernail to pull it out and point away. As for the battery? Sorry, that seems so easy after all the high-tech nightmares we all worked our way through in here. Turn the phone around so you see the camera on top. Using your thumbs, pull down on the bottom 2/3 of the back. If your phone is new, it may be a bit tight, but it will slide straight down. Rinse, repeat, enjoy.
Jack
P.S. If any n00bs are impatient enough to not read above, go to youtube. A lot of the problems such as battery placement, sim card placement, micro sd card stuff, basic knowledge stuff, is all at your fingertips. Want more precise answers? READ THE THREAD ABOVE. THEN, ask if you do not see your particular question. Chances are pretty good that a lot of people in here can help you.
May 21st, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Tony,
Did you ever receive comment on how to put your battery in the back and what you have to do to pull the pointer out? I had the same questions.

Do you know if voice call will be on the next firmware? I can only answer and hang up with my blue tooth ear piece. I would have though there would be a picture viewer on the phone. I tried to use the buttons to advance picture but they don’t work either.

enter phone lock code!!!!
what is this?
May 19th, 2008 at 6:37 am
I have read this whole list of postings and can I just say, before you ask a question, read the posts. The most frustrating thing was people butting in and asking a question that had been answered and addressed 3 times previously. Now, risking doing that myself… I did not see this… is there another site that has all tecnical info on it?
May 18th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Thanks for the quick response. I can make calls OK, but this happens when I tap on Homepage or try to get to any web page. Can you tell me where to direct it to not use a dial up feature?
May 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I think you are using the IP dial feature for internet calling. Just dial and press the green button.

I just about have my P168 set up now…thank God for this site! However, being an AT&T user, I’ve used the instructions shown above (also shown on the AT&T website) but when I try to access the web, my phone tries to actually dial out and fails. I obviously have something set wrong somewhere, but the WAP and GPRS instructions are done correctly. Can anyone set me straight?? Thanks!

The early version Y32 does not work with any engineering codes. The one above that I was provided by my supplier and posted on other forums helps as there is a place to set wallpaper there and you can turn the mic up to 6 so the other end can hear you better.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:45 am

Engineers are working on some bugs!!
Good luck for buyers!!
May 17th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
anyone know the engineer code for I68/Y32?
May 17th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Re Murali… tempting as it was I wouldn’t have wasted the time responding to your ill thought out complaints. If you had contributed anything of measurable use to this forum then I would say that you had a right to express your concerns about the negative side. Jackman has helped numerous people make good use of this phone. I myself have used one for months now and have only one minor complaint. How about taking your negative attitude somewhere else where it might be appreciated. This forum’s mission is to HELP not to HINDER.

I have the stylus pens in stock if anyone needs one. send me an email to sales@zydaglo.com
May 17th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Murali: Really?
If you had taken the time to read this huge collection of information, you would have been given a very accurate idea of how good and bad this phone is. Of course it is a crappy imitation! But believe it or not, there are those of us out here who are happy with it. That includes me. I am not ready to whip out $500-$600 for ANY cell phone (Iphone, in this case). This one tops my last one, no 2nd thoughts about it. Sell yours here and go buy an Iphone.
Now let’s discuss your concerns, point by point:
1) If the screen is not touch sensitive but stylus sensitive, does this mean you are somehow magically waving the stylus over the screen to get your commands met? No? Then that means Touch Sensitive: not necessarily touch as in your fingers can whisk all they want over the screen to get what you want, but touch in that something has to actually touch the screen. You have to use a stylus. Check with owners of an Iphone. They still have to use their stylus more than they want.
2) If you would have taken the time to read this, you would have found that upon making a call and the other party answering, you press the green phone icon at the bottom of the screen to access the keypad to deal with dialing extensions. That bit of information has been listed above at least a dozen times.
3) I don’t know what 10 steps you are talking about, but I made two phone calls before going online; and after reading your #3, I tried saving both numbers. Took me less than a minute to get both saved and I wasn’t even rushing.
4) If more is better when it comes to this phone, then wouldn’t getting the Iphone be an even worse idea according to your logic? I mean, the Iphone has MORE and can do more than the P168. You obviously do not want the P168, and you have not mentioned getting the Iphone original, so what is it exactly that you do want?
If you feel like you have been ripped off by getting this phone, return it or sell it here to someone who does want it, or sell it on Ebay. Hell, walk around with the damned thing in a crowded mall and play with it. Pretty soon, you will have a curious onlooker or two that will happily dish out $150 to $200 instead of the up to $600 or more for the latest Iphone. Unload it on them. I could have easily sold mine at least 3 times already in the last 4 months that I have had mine.
Having unloaded it, do your homework again and read up on the next phone that looks like a winner. I spent about 3 weeks reading up on mine before making the plunge and to this day, there are still little things about it that bother me. But in the big picture, for the price, this is a good phone. Sorry yours didn’t meet your expectations. I truly hope your next one does. It sucks having a phone you hate. That’s what I had before I got my P168.
Good luck, Murali

Jordan: I am trying to remember if the adapter for the Micro card was included when I got my phone and it probably wasn’t. If you go to any Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc., you should get yourself the 2GB Micro to hold more songs, movies, and so on. Pretty much every Micro you will find being sold will have a SD card adapter. Once you pull out your Micro from your phone, you slip it into the back of the SD card adapter and this you can slip into your card reader of your desktop or laptop. Most computers nowadays have the multi-card readers built in. If yours doesn’t, the same stores mentioned above have USB-driven card readers and adapters. Just check it out and I am sure they will guide you to what you need.

Very crappy imitation of i-phone:
Main problems:
1)Screen is not really touch sensitive,it is stylus sensitive. clumsy and inaccurate when finger is used as pointing device.
2) The phone is practically unusable if you have to dial an extension after dialing a phone number as the screen will default to main-screen! Stupid programmers!!
3) I just wish the programmers had at least copied the simple interface of cellphones. Example if I punch in a number, the option of saving that number should be easily available. It takes 10 steps to do it with this phone.
4) When it comes to phones, MORE IS NOT BETTER.
DO NOT buy this crap at any price!

Really appreciate the help fellas, ive sent away for a new cord now. You mentioned the adaptor to move files? I guess I need a card reader to do this?
May 15th, 2008 at 5:37 am
Andre’ - usually a sim registration failure is a bad sim card, an inactive sim card or a prepaid card with no money on it. Try someone else’s sim or take it to your service provider and have them try another one.
May 15th, 2008 at 5:18 am
Hi, i bought a Cect A88, but it always its displayed “SIM CARD registration Failed”
How i can fix this?
it’s possible that there is any problem with imei??

ANYONE have any help?
May 13th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Adept? Well, thanks, but in the beginning I was more like the early cavemen in the opening scene from “2001: A space odyssey.” It’s all about not being afraid of diving into your phone and seeing what it does. That and reading the entire beast above us all.
May 13th, 2008 at 10:31 am
I most certainly will pay it forward. I have thrown a helpful comment in the circle in an above thread, although I am no where as adept in this phone as you are Jackman. I will lend a hand when I have the knowledge to share.
May 13th, 2008 at 10:08 am
TO IC AND TO OTHERS ON HERE: If you have been helped and find that you learn more than you think you have learned on this phone, PAY IT FORWARD!!!
There will be many more n00bs that are going to buy this phone and will need help that you already know. Hopefully, they will take the time to read all of the above thread and copy and paste the needed info into a folder they can use later on. If they do come up with a question maybe not listed or forgotten, try to answer it. We’ve all been there so lend a hand when you can.
Together, we all get smarter on this phone.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Zy: Thanks for the correction. I figured the listings and descriptions I found on each phone from Ebay were probably not entirely accurate. I figured you had the right info in the end.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:53 am
The A88 is NOT java based and does not have the 850 band. the new i68.Y32.Sciphone is the quadband java phone. I have a few of them in stock. The LH01 is my happy replacement for the P168 as it has all of the features but a better design. I have the 850 version for sale MOST of the time but am sld out now - it is very hard to get the 850 version. The A88 is a good phone if you do not need the 850 band and I only have 1 left of them. I have all 3 types on the way but they sell out within days of arrival.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Zydaglo and Jay: Not to mention that the one-way shipping I spent on getting my phone from China was $35. God knows what the variants on shipping people have paid in here, whether higher or lower.
Jay: I say get a new one. The LH01 looks like it’s better than the P168, the Cect A380 has the actual Iphone-type screen tilt and shake to change songs on the audio player, and the A88 which I am not sure if it has the screen tilt, but it supposedly is Java-based. Do your homework and you will find a good to better replacement within your budget, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Zydaglo has a few hundred of each waiting for a new home.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:26 am
sillisil: Click on Home on the main screen, then System, then User Profile, then General (if that is what you chose for your profile. It is the generic choice for pretty much everyone), click on 2 Customize, 1 Tone Setup, 5 Message Tone, and there, you will find as #1, Silent! Click on it and click on the back button till you get to the Profile Options screen with the choices of 1 Activate and 2 Customize. Click on 1 Activate and you can now receive texts in class without your teacher knowing! Now get back to the books, slacker! lol jk
May 13th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Jackman,
Thank You. I followed your directions and they work to the letter. Great instructions.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Screen repair is about $54 and you have to pay for shipping to China. If you want to do this, I would just suggest bying a replacement as it will take a month as well.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Jay: I have read through the entire above and I do believe you are the first with this problem. Unfortunately, I never saw any place mentioned that can fix your phone. I think sellers are more interested in selling you a new one than repairing your current phone. Truth be told, it would probably end up being cheaper in the long run, but I can’t say for certain. Go to Zydaglo’s site and ask her. She sells this stuff and would know probably more than anyone I have run across so far.
IC: Click on Home, then System, then File Management, then Memory Card, and then on My Music. Find the song you want to use and click on it or hit Option in the bottom left-hand corner. Click on 2 Forward, and then on 1 To User Profile. Click on the Red Phone on the phone itself, not on the touchscreen (there is no red phone on the touchscreen, anyway) to get back to the main screen and click on Home, System, and then User Profile. I have my phone set to General; your’s is, too, probably.
Click on General, 2 Customize, 1 Tone Setup and then 1 Incoming Call. The song you chose should be at the bottom of the list of ringtones that have popped up. Click on the song you want, then click on Set As Ring Tone. Click on back 4 times to get you back to the Profile Options screen, with the choices of 1 Activate and 2 Customize. Click on 1 Activate. The song you chose is now your ringtone!
You can follow the same directions to set other songs for other people, alerts, incoming texts, alarmclock, etc. Unfortunately, you cannot delete the 25 pre-installed ringtones to replace them with your own. You only have 5 (FIVE!) spaces to put in your own songs. Choose wisely!
NS Murali: You should have read this forum before you bought your phone. I probably spent about two to three weeks going over this thread to weigh the pros and cons of this phone. I came down to this: it is a hell of a lot better than the Sony-Ericsson Z100A piece of crap ATT Go Phone shucked me with, and a hell of a lot cheaper than an Iphone. For what I paid and what I got, I am happy. If you don’t like yours, as others have shared your valued opinion, go get a real Iphone instead (no malice intended). Many people above have said the same thing. If you can afford $500-$600, by all means, do it. I would love to, but I need a brake job and registration payment more on my car than a wonderful new phone. Just a thought, and not an intentionally-bad one.
