So I know I'm a little late on the ball in regards to the post date but I was wondering if you've had any trouble with the mousepad. I also have an Acer Aspire One with the specs you described, and my cursor constantly jitters and becomes frozen on a y-axis so that I have to turn the mousepad off and use an external mouse. I'm considering exchanging it (bought off Newegg) and I'm hoping the next one will arrive without the problems that have plagued me from day one.

ok, lets just get one thing straight. Who actually here thinks that the aspire one has 0.3 mp webcam installed? Raise your hands. Ok... now take those hands and slap yourself in the face. Its 1.3 mp. How this 0.3 junk got around, I have no idea, but somewhere someone wrote a contagious typo and it just caught on. Its a 1.3 mp camera and yes, you can go up to 2.5 gb memory.

BIOS Password Not Accepted
Re post 44) Jeremy Says: September 15th, 2008 at 1:08 am .

Short suggestion: Keep the shift key pressed when entering your BIOS / Boot-up password. I have only tried with Left shift so far and it worked.

Long story:
I had the same problem. As soon as I unwrapped my new purchase, like a good boy , following good security practice, I set myself a four character boot-up password in the BIOS.

System would not accept the password. Started cursing the manufacturer and myself for being too enthusiastic. Had visions of being deprived of my shiny, new laptop experience. Then, calmed doen and fell back on my experience as an IT admin guy. I remembered that Acer has had funny stuff regarding BIOS passwords before laptops were common even.

I vaguely remember that one could get past a boot up password on Acer desktops (this was in year 2002) by using the Alt and Esc keys. But i digress.

I kept the shift key pressed while entering the password at the boot-up and it worked. System accepted the password and booted. I don't know whether all BIOS passwords are stored as upper case or the shift key does some other quirk. I'm too afraid to experiment further with BIOS passwords to find out.

In reply pc-tek99 on August 7th, 2008

You can do a lot more than just merely surf the net or write documents on an AA0. Yes, it is intended to be a net-centric device, a content consumer rather than a tool that actually gets things done. Not only have I transformed mine into a DVB-T TV and media streamer but also a MIDI sequencer connected to Roland synthesiser. I use it also to write and store general/study material. Having the 512MB 120GB version I have an encyclopaedic collection of data at hand. All this under Ubuntu 8.0.4.1. A very versatile piece of equipment. As for gaming, some games of the Supertux/Pingus variety can be played with no problems. 3D games are another matter, but not impossible. The Intel 945 GPU uses shared memory and a few OpenGL applications I use have no issues I know of.

You could try to type the password with CAPITAL letter, just hit CAPS LOCK and write. It appears to be a bug in the bios.
Best regards

Thanks for the help. I want to reset the bios password. Is there a jumper that resets it, or can I do so by removing the battery? Acer charge about 40% of the cost of the unit for doing this.

For reference, care may be needed when using the bios password - despite careful setting of new one, it now won't let me in, appearing to want an 8-digit passord (mine was 11).
