Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.B 2.5-inch Mobile HDD

Hitachi announces the new Travelstar 5K500.B mobile hard drive that comes in 2.5-inch, 9.5-mm thick form factor. The Travelstar 5K500.B make use of the industry’s latest 250GB-per-platter technology to deliver a 500GB storage capacity. The Travelstar 5K500.B operates at 5400 RPM and utilize the SATA 3Gbps interface.
Travelstar 5K500.B features also optional Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) for hard-drive-level data security.The 5K500.B is also eco-friendly featuring a read/write power specification of 1.4W.
Available in capacity ranging from 120GB to 500GB, the Travelstar 5K500.B will be shipped in December. Hitachi will also release in Q1 2009 the Travelstar E5K500.B, an enhanced-availability (EA) version of the drive that is designed for applications requiring 24×7 operation in lower transaction environments, such as blade servers, network routers, point-of-sale terminals and video surveillance systems.
