HTC MAX 4G – the First GSM / WiMax Phone

HTC and Russian carrier Scartel Yota introduce the new HTC MAX 4G PDA phone (previsouly known as the HTC T8290 Quartz) that is the world’s first GSM/WiMax mobile phone. The HTC MAX 4G supports WiMax 2.5-2.7GHz network provided by Yota, in addition to tri-band GSM/GPRS,EDGE and WiFi 802.11b/g.
HTC MAX 4G is powered by a Qualcomm ESM7206A 528 MHz processor, 256MB of ROM, 288MB of RAM. It features a 3.8-inch 480×800 LCD touchscreen display, TouchFLO 3D UI, a high-resolution auto-focus camera and a VGA front camera for video calls, Bluetooth and integrated GPS receiver.
The Windows Mobile 6 based MAX 4G has the Motion G-sensor for auto rotating photos and Proximity sensor for energy saving. It comes with also FM Tuner.

I watched one of the videos (though it was in Russian and I didn’t understand much) adn it looked quite smooth for a Windows Mobile powered device. You could watch TV many channels on it and it looked pretty good. I don’t think you can do that on 3G networks, at least not at that speed and video quality. WiMAX is a winner when it comes to wireless video applications.
