Sprint officially announced its version of HTC Hero Android smartphone that comes with a new chinless look unlike the GSM/WCDMA version of the Hero. Sprint’s Hero supports CDMA EVDO Rev.A 3G network.

Sprint’s HTC Hero is the third Android phone in the US, the first US device to feature HTC Sense UI and first Sprint device to offer HTC Footprints. It has same internal as the GSM Hero featuring a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with fingerprint resistant coating, a 5 megapixel camera, integrated GPS receiver, trackball navigation, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot.

The HTC Hero supports Sprint TV live and on-demand programming, NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile, visual voice mail service and offers easy access to social networking sites, including Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.
Sprint will release the HTC Hero on 11 October for $179.99 after a $50 instant savings and a $100 mail-in rebate with a two-year contract.

They’ve got the official press release up now – no chin, $179 after rebate…although it’s NOT the same no-chin phone that leaked yesterday.
