Garmin announced the new aera Series handheld navigation devices. Four models are introduced, aera 500, aera 510, aera 550 and aera 560, all with touchscreen and multi-mode so that it can transition between aviation to automotive mode with one touch.
The aera series features 5Hz GPS update rate and is pre-loaded with Terrain and obstable data as well as private airport data. The aera 510 and aera 560 are XM WX capable and come with GXM 40 antenna. The aera 550 and aera 560 come with SafeTaxi with over 950 US airports and AOPA Airport directory and are NAVTEQ automotive traffic compatible.
Garmin’s aera Series is rugged and waterproof. All four models feature pre-loaded auto maps with voice prompt, Bluetooth for hands-free calling. The aera 500, aera 510, aera 550 and aera 560 are available immediately for an expected street price of $799, $1299, $1499, and $1999, respectively.
