Intel introduces its Itanium 9300 (codenamed Tukwila) processor which packs two-billion transistors. It has four processing cores and eight threads per processor. It has an advanced machine-check architecture that coordinates error handling across the hardware, firmware and operating system and employs the second generation of Intel Virtualization Technology to improve performance and robustness.
The Intel QuickPath Interconnect technology and Scalable Memory Interconnect technology are also included. The Itanium 9300 ranges in price from $946 to $3,838 in quantities of 1,000.
