Still remember HTC’s HD2, the once flagship Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone? Now developers have successfully bring Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 Froyo to the HD2. You can see two video clips after the cut, one shows HD2 with Android 2.1 and the other with Android 2.2.

To recall your memory, the HD2 is powered by a Qualcomm SnapDragon 1GHz processor, 512MB ROM and 448MB RAM. It sports a 4.3-inch 800×480 capacitive touchscreen, a 5 Megapixel auto focus camera with dual LED flash, GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi. Basically, you can consider the HD2 as a HTC EVO 4G without 4G and runs Android.

When I got my HD2, it came w/ Android 2.3. I can make 6 calls and the battery needs a recharge. HD2 said warranty is void b/c OS was rooted. If I upload back to the original OS (Windows), will battery wear run normally? Will that re-instate the warranty? What version of Windows runs best? 6.5? 7.0? Need get this smartphone to run right. Anyone knowledgable please help.
    Thank you.

@Barry: The Android ROM installed on your phone can be upgraded and will achieve better battery life. Here are updated instructions on running Gingerbread on the phone: http://goo.gl/Fxla3. My configuration is listed in the post and maintains great battery life. You may also want to consider buying a second battery to keep handy.

If you need warranty work you can bring the phone back to its original state by flashing a Windows 6.5 ROM (get from carrier or find one on XDA) and then flashing back from HSPL3. You can uninstall HSPL3 by rerunning the HSPL3 setup and choosing the standard SPL 2.08.0000 option. Good luck.
