Sony introduces its new range of e-book digital readers, including the 5-inch PRS-350 Reader Pocket Edition, 6-inch PRS-650 Reader Touch Edition and the wireless 7-inch PRS-950 Reader Daily Edition. All of them utilize E-ink Pearl electronic paper displays with full touchscreen offering a high contrast ratio with 16 levels of grayscale.
Sony’s new readers all have 2GB internal memory. The PRS-350 Pocket Edition has a lightweight design and will come in silver and pink with a price tag of $179 while the PRS-650 will come in black and red for $229.
The PRS-950 Daily Edition ($299) supports AT&T’s 3G network as well as WiFi for wireless connection to Sony’s Reader Store. It also provides basic Web browsing capability. The PRS-950 has a 7-inch Vizplex e-ink display with 600×1024 resolution and touchscreen and dual memory card slots.
All these e-book readers support ePub (both DRM and non-DRM), BBeB Book(both DRM and non-DRM), PDF(both DRM and non-DRM) , TXT, RTF, Micrsoft Word docuements as well as JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP images. The PRS-650 Touch Edition and PRS-950 Daily Edition both offer dual expansion slots for Memory Stick Duo and SD/SDHC and supports MP3 and AAC audio files. Sony will also release the F-600 Open Light, a case with a reading light; the Reader Blue Cover, Reader Pink Cover; and the Reader Soft Case.
