In addition to the long zoom, GPS-equipped PowerShot SX230 HS, Canon introduces also the stylish PowerShot ELPH 500 HS (known as IXUS 310 HS in Europe and as IXY 31S in Japan) digital camera with a touch panel LCD. With a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 image processor, the camera comes with the HS SYSTEM technology to enhance image quality in low-light situations without the need for a flash.
Canon’s ELPH 500 HS has a f/2.0 4x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilizer and 24mm wide angle and a 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD for touch operation. It supports Full 1080p HD video recording and features the Movie Digest Mode that records a short video clip right before shooting a still image and then combines one day’s worth of clips into one video. There is HDMI output.
The touchscreen camera includes also Face Detection, Motion Detection, ISO up to 3200, Smart AUTO mode that intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting situations; High-speed Burst Mode that captures 8.2fps and Super Slow Motion Movie that records video at high speeds to allow slow motion playback.
Coming in March, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS will be priced at $299.99 and comes in silver, pink and brown.
