QNAP launches a new entry-level 4-drive 1U rack-mounted NAS server, the TS-412U targeted at SMB and workgroup market segments. The rackmount server supports 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives in hot-swappable drive carriers, offering up to 12TB of total capacity. It sports a Marvell 1.2GHz processor and 256MB DDR2 memory.
As a NAS server for business users, the QNAP TS-412U includes support for single disk, RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, or 5+ hot spare with online RAID capacity expansion and online RAID level migration for data redundancy. It alsos upports iSCSI target service with Thin Provisioning. The TS-412U has dual Gigabit LAN ports with failover and load balacing and four USB ports, two eSATA ports for expanding storage capacity.
The TS-412U can be configured as an FTP server, file server, print server, and even for encrypted remote replication of another QNAP NAS on the network. It includes business features such cross-platform support for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and UNIX environments, centralized backup for all computers attached to the network, recording of surveillance video from IP cameras, and advanced security features such as policy-based IP blocking, Windows Active Directory support.
