Buffalo announced two new USB 3.0 storage solutions, the MiniStation Extreme and the DriveStation Axis Velocity, both utilizes USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface to deliver enhanced performance. The MiniStation Extreme is a rugged, portable hard drive with attractive design and high-quality finish, a rubberized base and lightweight form factor, while the DriveStation Axis Velocity is a desktop hard drive equipped with 7200RPM hard drive and has a unique chassis design that can stand upright or lay flat allowing for placement just about anywhere.
The MiniStation Extreme features US Military Standard shock protection with a ruggedized chassis and specialized bumpers designed to absorb and transfer shock away from the hard disk due to accidental bumps and drops from up to 2 meters. The drive comes with convenient wrap-around cable hugs the body. Both USB 3.0 drives offer 256-bit AES hardware encryption offers government-grade protection without the need for additional software. They are backaward compatible with USB 2.0 and are pre-loaded with Buffalo Tools, a multipurpose utility suite .
The MiniStation Extreme comes in 500GB (HD-PZ500U3) and 1TB (HD-PNT1.0U3) that are priced at $94.99 and $129.99, respectively. The DriveStation Axis Velocity costs $94.99 for the 1 TB (HD-LX1.0TU3), $134.99 for the 2 TB (HD-LX2.0TU3) and $179.99 for the 3 TB (HD-LX3.0TU3).
