Sony Ericsson (going to drop Ericsson) announced at the CES 2012 the new Xperia S, which according to the company is the “first smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series – next generation smartphones from Sony”. As the next flagship of the Xperia lineup, the new phone is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz MSM8260 processor with 1GB of RAM. The new Xperia’s transparent element at the base creates an iconic silhouette where the display is emphasized and underlined. In addition, it provides illumination effects and integrates the antenna components.
The Xperia S sports a 4.3-inch HD resolution 1280×720 Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine. The display gets shatter proof sheet on scratch-resistant glass. It has a 12 Megapixel main camera with Sony Exmor R for mobile, 1080p Full HD video recording, face detection/recognition, auto focus, 3D sweep panorama and image stabilizer; and a 1.3 Megapixel 720p HD front camera. The Fastest Capture function allows users to take shots in just 1.5 seconds directly from standby mode. Other than HDMI and DLNA support, the phone also offers NFC (Near Field Communications) that works with SmartTags and BRAVIA Sync.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia S supports GPS/aGPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity as well as GLONASS. It comes with 32GB internal memory. The smartphone supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and quad-band UMTS HSPA 3.5G networks. Instead of replaceable battery, the phone gets built-in battery.
