Dell updates its Precision line of mobile workstations with the new M4700 and M6700 both powered by Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors. Powered by choice of 3rd gen Core i5, i7 and Extreme Edition (3920XM) processors, they can be equipped with up to 32GB of DDR3 memory. The M4600 comes with a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display while the M6700 has a 17.3-inch LED screen, both with optional IPS panel and Full HD resolution. The latter can also configured with optional 10 finger multitouch, and NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro.
As mobile workstations, Dell’s new Precision models also sport choice of professional graphics cards. The M4700 can get NVIDIA’s 2GB Quadro K1000M or K2000M, or AMD’s FirePro M4000 Mobility Pro with 1GB memory; and the M6700 can be equipped with NVIDIA’s K3000/K4000M/K5000 or AMD FirePro M6000 Mobility Pro. Both systems support RAID 0/1/5 storage, offering up to 1.8TB total storage (3 bays) in the M4700 and 2.8TB storage (4 bay) in the M6700. You can also find a DVD burner/Blu-ray drive and 10-in-1 card reader.
Dell’s M4700 and M6700 support Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11n connectivity and feature SmartCard Reader and optional Contactless SmartCard Reader, FIPS Fingerprint Reader. There are USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort connectors and two Full and two Half Mini Card slots. The mobile workstations also get a MIL-STD 810G tested aluminum and magnesium alloy chassis, and anti-microbial keyboard.
The Dell M4700 starts at $1649 and the M6700 at $2199. Dell will also bring the special Covet Edition M6700 with Phoenix Red color finish and edge to edge Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The Covet Edition starts at $3579.
