Panasonic introduces the new LUMIX DMC-GH3 top-of-the-line Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera, replacing the LUMIX GH2. Panasonic said that the lightweight, compact camera is tough enough to withstand the extreme conditions of heavy field use and professional use. The GH3 is equipped with a new 16.05 Megapixel Live MOS sensor with a wide dynamic range, and the high-speed Venus Engine to deliver high quality images. Ideal for multimedia photographers, the camera does great in both photo and video shooting.
While the new image sensor does high sensitivity image recording with ISO 12,800 or ISO 25,600 in extended mode, the refined Venus Engine arieve superior noise reduction. Panasonic also adds the 3DNR (3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction) to reproduce bright areas and dark areas with minimum noise across the entire focusing range. The GH3 features ultra-high-speed Light Speed AF with advanced contrast AF system and full-area focusing and pinpoint AF for accurate framing. It is capable of 6fps high-speed burst shooting at full resolution. There are also AF Tracking and Face Recognition AF.
The new LUMIX GH3 also comes with the newly designed LPF (Low Pass Filter) to minimize generation of moire while drawing maximum resolution of the image out of the sensor, and its electronic shutter with silent operation prevents pixel declination. The camera also feature DR (High Dynamic Range) to cope with the extreme bright and dark contrast by taking consecutive photos with different exposure levels and combined them into a single photo. You can also find Time Lapse Shot or Multiple Exposure. Its built-in can cover 24mm wide-angle of view.
Panasonic’s GH3 is capable of Full HD 1920×1080/60p video recording. When recording in MOV, AVCHD Progressive and AVCHD format, the camera will automatically generates multiple seamless files for continuous recording. It has built-in stereo microphone for high-quality sound recording and will use Dolby Digital for AVCHD Progressive /AVCHD videos and linear PCM(LPCM) for non-compressed video recorded in MOV. You may also use external microphones for enhanced sound recording using the two 3.5mm terminals. For users to add creative touches to photos, the camera also include Photo Style with 6 color typs and Creative Control with 14 filters, such as Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process, Toy Effect, Miniature Effect. The Creative Video mode provides four manual video modes – Program AE / Aperture-Priority / Shutter-Priority / Manual Exposure – for video shooting, and Slow Motion and Fast Motion recording modes.
The GH3, as mentioned above, has a rugged body. It gets magnesium alloy full diecast frame and advanced splash/dustproof construction that was achieved by sealing the sections of the camera body to enable shooting under extreme conditions. It comes with a OLED Live View Finder (LVF), and a 3-inch 614K-dot free-angle OLED touchscreen display that can rotates 180-degree to the side and tilts 270-degree up and down. The main monitor offers smart touch operation and touch focus, while the OLED LVF gets an eye sensor that can trigger auto focus when you look into the LVF to capture the moment. The built-in WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity allows you to link the camera with a smartphone or tablet for image sharing and remote control.
Panasonic will release the LUMIX DMC-GH3 in holiday season.
