AT&T and Samsung’s Rugby family has its latest member, the Rugby III compatible AT&T’s Enhanced Push to Talk (PTT) service. Following the Android-powered Rugby Pro and Rugby Smart smartphones, this fifth generation Rugby device goes back to the basic with a clamshell flipping style, like the Rugby II.
The new Rugby III meets Mil-STD 810G military specification for Dust, Humidity, Rain, and Shock and is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof. It supports AT&T’s Enhanced Push to Talk (PTT) service that allows business users to “communicate faster, to larger talk groups, and across multiple types of handsets”. The phone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA color display, a 3 Megapixel camera and a dedicated PTT button for easy access. It also provides one-touch access to AT&T Navigator GPS navigation service (Subscription needed), and supports a range of AT&T’s mobile management applications for the field.
Coming on 14 December, the Samsung Rugby III is priced at $99.99 with a 2-year contract, or free for business customers with AT&T account. Organizations and companies can use the rugged handset with AT&T’s Enhanced PTT rate plans – $5 per month when added to existing AT&T voice and data plans or $30 per month for PTT-only.
Key features of AT&T Enhanced PTT include:
- Larger contact lists and talk groups than competitive PTT solutions
- Ability to combine PTT services and mobile applications, with help from AT&T’s team of mobility consulting and integration experts
- Supervisory override and talk group scanning, features that were previously available only for two-way radio users
- Sub-second call setup
