Buffalo has launched in the US the new DriveStation DDR high performance USB 3.0 desktop hard drive. To deliver optimum, SSD-like performance, the drive features Buffalo’s MegaCache Accelerator cache system with 1GB of DDR3 RAM to accelerate file transfer rates (this is also how the drive gets ‘DDR’ in its name).
Buffalo said that the cache system will caches data as it’s transferred to boost performance of the drive for up to 408MB/s transfer speeds, which is 2.3x faster than other USB 3.0 hard drives. The drive is available in 2TB and 3TB capacities and is backward compatible with USB 2.0. It works with Windows PC and Mac and comes pre-loaded with Buffalo Backup Utility for auto and scheduled backup and SecureLock software for data encryption and protection. It also works with Mac OS X’s Time Machine.
The DriveStation DDR has a sleek chassis. It can be placed vertically or horizontally. The 2TB (model HD-GD2.0TU3) and 3TB (model HD-GD3.0TU3) models are priced at $139.99 and $179.99, respectively.
