AMEX Digital launches the new BD-UG1 Blu-ray drive upgrade kit for Apple’s Mac Mini. The BD-UG1 is basically a SATA slot-loding Blu-ray/DVD combo drive that supports up to 4X reading of Bly-ray discs and 8X DVD writing and 24X CD writing.

According to AMEX, the drive does direct playback of Blu-ray “HD Video Files” on Mac OSX with VLC media player. As for creating Blu-ray or DVD discs on a Mac, you need Roxio Toast 9 with HD/BD Plug-in and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with Encore.

The AMEX Digital BD-UG1 Blu-ray kit is priced at $199.

iFixit did it again. This time they have disassembled Apple’s new Macbook Unibody (October 2009) laptop. The new MacBook Unibody has a polycarbonate unibody upper case and integrated battery. It gets a glass multitouch trackpad.

Apple introduces the new MacBook with a new, durable polycarbonate unibody design. The new MacBook (October 2009) gets a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display, a glass Multi-Touch trackpad and Apple’s innovative built-in battery for up to seven hours of battery life.

The new Macbook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz processor 2GB of DDR3 memory, a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. It packs a 250GB hard drive and a slot-load 8X SuperDrive with dual layer support. The laptop supports WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR connectivity and comes with a built-in iSight webcam, Ethernet port, two USB port and a MIni DisplayPort. Apple launches its new iMac all-in-one desktop, which comes with 21.5-inch and 27-inch LED-backlit widescreen display in a new edge-to-edge glass design. The new iMac (October 2009) has a seamless all aluminum enclosure and comes with wireless keyboard and the new Magic Mouse.

The new iMac line starts at $1199. It is powered by Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz and Core i5 and Core i7 are also available as options. The 21.5-inch model features 1920×1080p Full HD display while the 27-inch offers 2560×1440 resolution. Both displays are based on IPS LCD panel.

Apple announced the new Magic Mouse, which is the world’s first mouse to feature the Multi-Touch technology, replacing the Mighty Mouse. The entire top of the Magic Mouse is a seamless Multi-Touch surface, instead of mechanical buttons, scroll wheels or scroll balls.

The Multi-Touch surface of the Magic Mouse allows users to use intuitive finger gestures such as scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. The touch-sensitive enclosure also allows it to be a single or multi-button mouse.

Apple Magic Mouse utilizes laser tracking engine and Bluetooth wireless connection. It is priced at $69.

Apple introduces the third generation of the iPod touch starting at $199 for 8GB model.Contray to the rumors, the new iPod touch does NOT come with a camera. It still gets a 3.5-inch glass display with multi-touch user interface.

32GB and 64GB models use the same ARM Cortex-A8 processor as the iPhone 3GS, offering up to 50% faster performance and support for even better graphics with Open GL ES 2.0. The new iPod touch comes with the latest iPhone 3.1 software and supports Genius Mixes. The 32GB and 64GB versions are priced at $299 and $399 respectively.

Other than the new iPod nano 5G, Apple brings the more colorful iPod Shuffle 3G portable music player. The device is now available in Silver, Black, Pink, Blue and Green. Like the original Shuffle 3G, the player supports VoiceOver function.

Apple adds a 2GB version of the player that costs $59 and the 4GB version is still priced at $79. There is also an Apple Store exclusive Special Edition 4GB iPod Shuffle that comes in polished stainless steel. The special edition is priced at $99.

Apple made its new iPod nano 5G official. As expected the new iPod nano gets a camera. Also added is a built-in FM tuner with Live Pause and iTunes Tagging.

iPod nano’s camera is able to capture H.264 VGA 640×480 video at up to 30fps with AAC audio. Users can apply to their video 15 real-time special effects, Sepia, Black and White, X-Ray, Film Grain, Thermal, Security Cam, Cyborg, Bulge, Kaleido, Motion Blur, Mirror, Light Tunnel, Dent, Stretch, and Twirl. The new nano gets a larger 2.2-inch 376×240 LCD display (up from 2-inch), VoiceOver like the iPod Shuffle 3G, voice memo function and a pedometer for Nike+ integration.

Apple’s iPod nano 5G includes FM tuner as well. What’s so special is the Live Pause function that lets you take a quick break from listening to your favorite radio station with a click. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, then fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast. The new 5G nano measures exactly identical to the iPod nano 4G. It comes with a brilliant polished anodized aluminum finish comes in nine electrifying colors, with PRODUCT RED and Gold Apple Store exclusive. 8GB version is priced at $149 and 16GB at $179.

The new Mac Mini is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo 2GHz or 2.26GHz processor, up to 4GB of RAM and up to 320GB hard drive. It comes with a slot-loading SuperDrive DVD Dual layer burner, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and Ethernet port. you can find a mini-DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort, a FireWire 800 connector and five USB 2.0 ports.

Two models are available, the $599 model with 2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 120GB hard drive and the $799 model with 2GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 320GB hard drive.

Mac mini is claimed to be the most energy-efficient desktop computer in the world using less than 13W while it’s idle, 45 percent less power than the previous model.

While Apple’s Macs still come without Blu-ray, Psystar offers the OpenPro Mac clone with Blu-ray option. The OpenPro is a Mac clone desktop. Buyers can choose from Core 2 Duo E8500, E8600, Core 2 Quad Q6600, Q9300. or Q9550 Centrino 2 processors.

Psystar OpenPro supports up to 8GB of RAM and has 1TB of 7200RPM hard drive. The basic configuration includes a DVD SuperMulti DL burner and buyers may want to upgrade to 6x Bluray burner/DVD burner combo for additional $310.

As for graphics, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 512MB is standard, and GeForece 9800GT and dual GeForece 9800GT are available for additional $200 and $400 respectively.

The price of Psystar OpenPro starts at $1,264.99. It will runs Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.
