Olympus introduces new E-M5, the first model in its new OM-D (OM Digital) Series of Micro Four Thirds camera system, build upon the 40-year legacy of the OM SLR film camera series. Featuring the classic design of original OM Series, the new camera uses the modern Micro Four Thirds system. Olympus combines features found in the E-System DSLRs with those of the compact PEN Series to create a new compact, interchangeable lens camera for photographers who want both performance and portability.

The E-M5 sports a 16.1 Megapixel Live MOS sensor, TruePIC VI image processing engine, and a 3-inch tilting OLED touchscreen display. The M43 camera features the world’s first 5-axis image stabilizer to compensate for multi-directional camera shake during both still photography and HD moviemaking, and the image stabilization system is incorporated into the compact camera body itself, which means all lenses mounted can take advantage of this 5-axis stabilization system.

The OM-D E-M5 offers fast autofocusing speed and image processing featuring the world’s fastest FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF system. The 16MP Live MOS chip drives image data off the sensor at a blazing 240 frames-per-second, a 2X speed increase in Continuous Autofocus, with reduced image blackout enabling photographers to track fast action, Maximum frame rates have also increased more than 2X with a max frame rate of 9-fps in Single AF. There is also the new 3D tracking AF system that can follow the subject through the X-, Y- and Z-axes to dramatically improve focus on moving subjects. It is equipped with a built-in high-resolution electronic viewfinder with 120-fps refresh rate, eye detect and intuitive functionality that enables real-time viewing of shooting conditions.

With a 3-inch touchscreen, the E-M5 offers easy touch operation, including intuitive focus and release of the shutter. The new “Live Bulb feature updates the Live View image on the OLED screen at pre-set intervals during long exposures and enables the user to preview continually unfolding action such as fireworks or waterfalls and adjust the exposure time accordingly while capturing the image at the desired moment.” Spcieal effect art filters are available for users to add creative touches to their photos and movies, including the new Movie Effects: One Shot Echo, for a semi-transparent frame at your whim and Multi Echo, for a multi-motion trail effect. The camera records Full HD 1080i video recording in MOV format (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264).

Along with the SZ-12, Olympus is launching just another ultra zoom digital camera – the SP-620UZ. Compare to the SZ-12, the SP-620UZ packs a less powerful lens in a less compact body, and that makes the latter more affordable. Olympus launches a new digital camera, the SZ-31MR iHS with a long-zoom lens and the iHS Technology. Pentax introduces its 13th generation of rugged waterproof digital camera, the Optio WG-2 and the Optio WG-2 GPS that are the successor to the WG-1. The two new rugged cameras are adventure proof. Nikon introduces the its new D800 and D800E digital SLR cameras featuring a 36.3 Megapixel FX-Format CMOS image sensor. To handle extreme resolution and deliver amazing images, the D800/D800E is equipped with EXPEED 3 image processing engine. It features the new 91,000-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering III and the Advanced Scene Recognition System, and an improved 51-point AF system with 15 Cross Type AF sensors for sharp and clear images.

Nikon’s D800 offers standard ISO sensitivity of 100-6400 and is expandable to 50-25,600. It supports continuous shooting at up to 4fps at full FX-format resolution. The DSLR comes with  an enhanced optical low pass filter (OLPF) and 14 bit A/D conversion with a high signal to noise ratio to deliver excellent low light ability despite the extreme resolution. The in-camera High Dynamic Range image capture mode allows users to expand dynamic rangem and the Active D-Lighting allows for balanced exposure. The D800 records Full HD 1080 video at 30/24p or 720p video at 60/30p in H.264/MPEG4 AVC format. It has a 3.2-inch LCD display with reinforced glass automatic monitor brightness control, and wide viewing angle. Users can also bring images or videos to a larger screen via HDMI port.

To meet professional’s need for maximum speed, the D800 is ready to shoot in 0.12 seconds and is ready to capture with super-fast AF and response speed. It has a lightweight body with the chassis construted of magnesium alloy for maximum durability. It supports RAW shooting and supports CF and SD memory cards including the latest UDMA-7 and SDXC/UHS-1 cards. The D800 has two axis Virtual Horizon graphic indicator and users can use the LCD display or viewfinder to check if the camera is level—horizontally or with forward or rear rotation.

Another model, D800E treads in medium format territory for studio work or landscape photography when there is no exception to only the highest fidelity and sharpness. It includes all features of the D800 yet it will effectively enhance the resolution characteristics of the 36.3-megapixel CMOS sensor by cancelling the anti-aliasing properties of the OLPF inside the camera. “By doing this, light is delivered directly to the photodiodes, yielding an image resulting from the raw light gathering properties of the camera. A color moiré correction tool will also be available within Capture NX2 to enhance the D800E photographer’s workflow.”

Another two new additions to the A-series, the PowerShot A1300 and PowerShot A810 are cameras powered by AA batteries. Each of them sports a 16 Megapixel image sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens with 28mm wide angle and a 2.7-inch LCD display. The A1300 also comes equipped with an optical viewfinder for the more traditional camera users.

Canon announced for the US market two new PowerShot ELPH digital cameras, the flagship long-zoom ELPH 530 HS measuring just 0.78-inch thick and the ELPH 320 HS. Along with the new S9300 and S9200, Nikon also adds the CoolPix S6300 to its S-series. The S6300 is also a compact digital camera with a long zoom range featuring a 10x optical zoom NIKKOR lens with 25mm wide angle, just like its predecessor S6200. The camera has a stylish design with a rounded form and metallic feel. It packs a 16 Megapixel backside illumination CMOS image sensor, EXPEED C2 image processor and a 2.7-inch LCD display.

The new S6300 supports Full HD 1080p video recording with a dedicated movie-record button and users can apply optical zoom during movie recording. The camera comes with 19 optimized scene modes and scene auto selector. Special effects including Soft, High key, Low key, Nostalgic sepia, Selective color, or High-contrast monochrome can be used when you take pictures or movies, and there are in-camera filter effects for you to add creative touch to images already taken. Pentax announced its new K-01 interchangeable lens camera (mirrorless camera) designed by Marc Nerson who are known for designing wide range of objects from furniture and household products to bicycles, cars, aircraft and yachts. The mirrorless design K-01 is compatible with ENTAX K-mount lenses.

The K-01 sports a APS-C sized 16 Megapixel CMOS image sensor and a 3-inch LCD display. It features sensor-shift PENTAX Shake and Dust Reduction system that is compatible with every mounted Pentax lens, and offers 6fps burst mode for fast-action photography. Pentax will release new smc PENTAX-DA 40mm F2.8 XS interchangeable lens, which is the world’s thinnest interchangeable lens, for the K-01. The mirrorless camera featurs in-camera HDR mode that combines bracketed user-specified exposures into a single image for enhanced image quality, and multiple shooting modes including P, Av, Tv, and M as well as Auto Picture, scene modes, and creative filters.

Pentax K-01 provides a flexible ISO range of 100-25600 and the Focus Peaking Mode that provides fast and accurate manual focusing for critical focus applications. It supports Full HD 1080- video recording at 30fps. The K-01 will be available in March in yellow, black and white for $749.95 (body only) and $899.95USD (lens kit including new DA 40mm XS) in Marc Newson designed packaging and with the Marc Newson designed strap. Nikon introduces the new CoolPix S9300 and the CoolPix S9200 compact digital cameras as the the successors to the S9100. Though with a slim and compact form factor, both cameras are equipped with a thin 18x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers a wide range of angles of view from wide-angle 25 mm to super-telephoto 450 mm.

The S9300 and S9200 sport a 16 Megapixel backside illumination CMOS image sensor and feature the lens-shift vibration reduction to reduce blur and hand shakes when shooting indoor or in dark places. They also come with EXPEED C2 image processing engine for quality image output. In Night Portrait, Backlighting and Night Landscape scene modes, the benefits of the backside illumination CMOS sensor in terms of image quality with shooting at high sensitivities are utilized through the capture of multiple shots in quick succession, which are then combined and recorded as a single image.

The S9200 is the basic model and the S9300 packs built-in GPS chip to record location data for each shot and log your movement, even when you are not taking pictures. Users can also use the onboard database of 1.7 million POIs to confirm and record the name of the location when shooting. Both S9200 and S9300 have a 3-inch LCD display. They record 1920×1080 Full HD video and movies recorded using the HS Movie function can be played back in slow motion at 1/2 or 1/4 the normal playback speed, or in fast motion at twice the normal playback speed for a comical effect. Other features include ISO up to 3200, scene modes, in-camera image editing, and HDMI output.

Nikon will release the GPS-equipped CoolPix S9300 in the US in black, red and silver for $249.95. Blue color option will be available in other regions. The CoolPix S9200 will come in blue, black, silver and champagne.

Following the CoolPix P500 last year, Nikon brings the new CoolPix P510 ultra zoom digital camera in 2012. While its predecessor P500 gets a 36x optical zoom lens, the P510 further the zoom range featuring a 42x optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens with 24mm wide angle. The camera is equipped with Nikon’s EXPEED C2 digital image processing engine to ensure quality images and videos. It is able to focus as close as 0.4 inches (1cm).

The CoolPix P510 sports a 16.1-megapixel Backside Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor and optical Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization to deliver excellent image quality even in low-light conditions. It comes with built-in GPS for geotagging images and movies with latitude and longitude location information. The camera supports high-speed continuous shooting, taking shots in approximately one second.

The Nikon P510 can record Full HD 1080 movie and has HDMI mini output. The 3-inch large display lets you to compose images and movies from difficult angle. Other features include ISO up to 3200, In-Camera Image Editing, Scene Modes, manual mode, and the the Easy Panorama mode that automatically combines multiple shots into a seamless 180º or 360º panoramic image.
