TomTom brings two new GPS navigation devices for Walmart’s Black Friday specials, the ONE 125 SE and the XL 325 SE. The former gets a 3.5-inch touchscreen while the latter has a 4.3-inch touchscreen. They have maps of the US and millions of point of interest pre-loaded and supports spoken instructions and text to speech.

Other common features include TomTom Map Share technology, TomTom Home application that keeps the device up-to-date, optional RDS-TMC traffic receiver for real-time traffic, and optional Fuel Prices services.

These GPS devices will be available exclusively at Walmart starting on Black Friday, which begins in Walmart stores at 5:00 AM Friday, 27 November 2009. The ONE 125 SE costs $59 and the XL 325 SE is priced at $89.

ArcherMind, a Chinese software company, showed at the Embedded Technology 2009 in Japan the world’s first Android-based car navigation system. Following TomTom’s Car Kit, Magellan is going to release a similar product named Premium Car Kit. The device features a fully adjustable mount that works with any skin or case, built-in GPS receiver for enhanced signal and the ability to do in-car charging.

With built-in noise-canceling speakerphone and amplified speaker, the Premium Car Kit can be used for Bluetooth hands-free calling. Users can rotate the kit for both portrait and landscape use. Other than use with iPhone, it’s built-in GPS receiver also turn iPod touch into a GPS navigator.

Magellan Premium Car Kit works with any GPS or location based iPhone app. The company does release the RoadMate app that features NAVTEQ Maps, Spoken Street Name Guidance, Highway Lane Assist, 3D Landmarks and Pedestrian Mode. The RoadMate App is priced at $79.99 and the Car Kit has no price and release date yet.

Mio launches in Korea the new Hammer V700 GPS navigation device. The V700 has a 7-inch touchscreen display with 800×480 resolution and a GPS receiver that can track 64 satellites at once. It is equipped with TPEG receiver for traffic update as well.

Garmin announced the new aera Series handheld navigation devices. Four models are introduced, aera 500, aera 510, aera 550 and aera 560, all with touchscreen and multi-mode so that it can transition between aviation to automotive mode with one touch.

The aera series features 5Hz GPS update rate and is pre-loaded with Terrain and obstable data as well as private airport data. The aera 510 and aera 560 are XM WX capable and come with GXM 40 antenna. The aera 550 and aera 560 come with SafeTaxi with over 950 US airports and AOPA Airport directory and are NAVTEQ automotive traffic compatible.

A guy called Mikal Hart has homemaded the above GPS puzzle box. The box opens only when it’s in the specificied location and the puzzle you have to solve is to find the location.
