A guy, called “anh”, over at mictopctalk.com has modded the Sony VAIO UX490N UMPC into a device that does almost everything. The original Core 2 Solo U220 1.2GHz processor has been replaced by a more powerful Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 1.33GHz processor overclocked to 1.438GHz; a 128GB RunCore Pro IV SSD replaced the original 48GB SSD, and the Intel 3945ABG WiFi card has been swapped for the wireless-N capable Intel 4965AGN card.

The modder also added Huawei’s E169 3G module, which supports 900/2100MHz HSDPA/UMTS 3G and quad-band GSM network for data, voice and text. The modded VAIO UX490N is loaded with four OSes, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, Windows XP Pro and Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.7.

ITG’s xpPhone is the very first Windows XP mobile phone. Though the device has not been released yet, ITG is going to offer customization option to consumers. According to pocketables, the xp[hone will be available in 4.3-inch, 4.8-inch and 7-inch screen sizes and can be loaded with Windows 7 OS, instead of Windows XP.

These options make the xpPhone more like a MID with 2G/3G connectivity. Like the original xpPhone, the device sports an AMD super mobile processor, up to 2GB of RAM and either up to 64GB or 120GB hard drive.

No word yet on launch date and pricing, however.

Other than the xpPhone, here is another mobile phone running Windows XP OS, the ViewSonic VCP08. ViewSonic’s new device comes in clamshell style and includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard inside.

Outside you can find a 2-inch LCD display, a 2 Megapixel camera, and number keys. The VCP08 is boosted by Intel’s Ultra Low Voltage processor, 512MB RAM and 8GB flash memory.

Here is the M700T (MID700), a MID (Mobile Internet Device) running Android from Chinese company Boeye. The device actually looks like a enlarged version of Apple’s iPhone and the rumored Apple Tablet. It has a 7-inch 800×480 LCD touchscreen and a 1.3 Megapixel camera.

The M700T is boosted by a 624MHz Marvell PXA303 processor with 128MB RAM and 2GB Flash memory. It has built-in GPS chipset and supports WiFi and Bluetooth. 3G module (WCDMA/EVDO/TD-SCDMA) is available as an option.

The Boeye M700T can have either Android 1.5 or Windows CE 6.0 as the OS. It supports microSD card up to 16GB and provides two USB ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Chinese company releases the Z5 MID based on Atom and Windows XP. The Z5 sports Intel Atom Z512 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 8GB SSD. The mobile mobile device (MID) gets a 5-inch 800×480 touchscreen display and supports WiFi and EVDO 3G connectivity.

The Z5 includes also Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera and a 0.3 Megapixel webcam as well as a CF card slot for expansion. It can be loaded with Windows XP or Linux. The device is available from Amazon China for 5999 Chinese Yuan (US$879).

It seems like Dell is really planning a mobile internet device. Leaked photos indicate that the device will be known as the Dell Streak and will run Android OS 2.0. It gets a 5-inch 800×480- touchscreen display and a 5 Megapixel camera.

Shenzhen, China-based company Wireless Information and Telemetry System (WITS) introduces the A81 mobile internet device (MID). The A81 MID is powered by ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor, the same CPU that boosts iPhone 3GS, iPhone touch 3G, Palm Pre.

The A81 gets 2GB of flash memory for the WinCE 6.0 OS and 2GB of memory. It has a 7-inch 800×480 capacitive touchscreen display and supports WiFi and Ethernet connectivity. It has a USB OTG port and a microSD card slot. The A81 MID can be equipped with optional GPS receiver.

The WITS A81 is priced at 1580 Chinese Yuan (US$232).

This is uSmart M1C, a ultra portable PC showsed at the Hong Kong Electronic Fair. The 4.8-inch device is really compact and small. It is just 0.5kg. On the left there is a HTC Hero and you can imagine how small the device is.

The M1C is boosted by an Intel Atom Z530 processor and built-in GMA500 graphics. It’s 4.8-inch display has 800×480 resolution. HDMI is supported. The M1C is still in development stage, no words on launch date.

Kohjinsha shows at the CEATEC Japan 2009 its new PA-series UMPC/tablet PC. The device features a 4.8-inch 1024×600 swivel touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard. The ultra portable UMPC is powered by Intel’s Atom Z520 1.33GHz processor, 512MB RAM and a 320GB SSD.

Kohjinsha PA-series comes with also a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, a microSD card slot and support for Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity. It measures 161mm x 111mm x 10-26mm and weighs just 400g. The UMPC runs Windows XP Home SP3.

Also introduced is the Dual Display PC, which gets dual 10.1-inch LCD display. The notebook is equipped with AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 1.6GHz processor, up to 4GB of RAM and a 2.5-inch hard drive. It will be pre-loaded with Windows 7.

As we’ve seen before, SmartDevices’s SmartQ5 is a 4.3-inch mobile internet device running  Windows CE 6.0. Now over at eletroworld.cn, there is the SmartQ5a that runs the Android OS instead of WinCE, though we can’t find related information on the official site of SmartDevices.

The SmartQ5a is boosted by a Samsung ARM S3C6410 667MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 1GB flash memory. It supports Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11b/g and has a microSD card slot. There is also a USB 2.0 HOST port for connecting EDGE/HSDPA 3G modem. The device runs Android 1.5. It costs $199.99.

Chinese firm QiGi is going to launch its Smartbook U1000 mobile internet device (MID) running Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. You can consider the U1000 as a PDA with a large 5-inch 16:9 LCD touchscreen display with 480×800 resolution.

The device packs a 624MHz processor and a camera. It supports WiFi connectivity. No words yet on availability and pricing.

TabletKiosk introduces two new eo series ultra-mobile PCs, the eo a7330D and the eo TufTab a7230XD. Both of them have a 7-inch auto-switching dual mode active digitizer / resistive touch screen panel developed by Wacom.

The eo TufTab a7230XD, on the other hand, is a rugged UMPC with a 2 Megapixel auto focus webcam, integrated RFID reader, built-in 1D/2D barcode scanner, TPM v1.2, and RS-232 Serial port. It meets the MIL-SPEC-810F specifications and is rated IP54 to survive under extreme environment.

As reported, the mysterious Android MID is actually eviGroup’s Wallet MID. Here you can find more details of the device. The Wallet MID features a 5-inch 800×480 touchscreen display, a built-in camera, 8GB internal memory and a mini SD card slot. It supports WiFi, 3G and GPS connectivity. It will run the Android OS.

The Wallet MID will probably come early next year for about Euro 300.

Viliv V70EX has been released in the US market. Three versions are available, the X70EX Express P, X70EX Premium P and X70EX Premium 3GP, which are priced at $599.99, $729.99 and $879.99 respectively.

At the IDF 2009, UMID shows the world the successor to the mbook M1, known as the mbook M2. The M2 will pack Intel’s Atom 1.2GHz or 1.6GHz processor and 1GB of memory. The new mbook has a LCD display of about 4.8-inch and QWERTY keyboard. The UMID mbook M2 is expected to be released in Q4 2009.

Remember the xpPhone we’ve few months ago? In Technology Group (ITG) is now accpeting the pre-order of the xpPhone. Basically, the device is handheld computer/mobile phone running Windows XP. It is boosted by a AMD mobile CPU, up to 1GB RAM, either 64GB SSD or 120GB hard drive. There is a 4.8-inch 800×480 touchscreen.

French company eviGroup is going to release the Wallet MID that has similar design as the mysterious Android MID/SMiT MID-560.

Details of the Wallet MID have not been confirmed. It can be equipped with x86 processor and runs Windows XP or it can get an ARM processor with a custom OS. The MID will basically include a 5-inch touchscreen and GPS.

We’ve seen several shots of the mysterious MID running Android yesterday and now the device gets identified as the MID-560 from ShenZhen-based company, SMIT.

The SMIT MID-560 is powered by Samsung’s 6410 System-on-Chip and a 533MHz or 667MHz ARM11 processor. It packs a 5-inch 800×480 touchscreen, built-in CMMB (China’s Digital TV standard) TV tuner, built-in GPS receievr, 2GB/4GB/8GB internal storage and a microSD card slot.

The MID-560 supports also WiFi wireless connectivity. It is able to record digital TV programs, thanks to its CMMB receiver and it plays H.264, H.263, DivX and XviD videos. The device runs Android OS version 1.5. SMIT doesn’t provide any info about pricing and availability.

Here are some photos showing an unkown MID with Android OS. No details about the MID is available now. What we know is the device is running Android and has a 5-6-inch touchscreen. The MID acutally comes with a similar design as Apple’s iPod touch with curved metal back and rounded corners.

As you can see in the photos, the MID is placed on top of a Japanese version of Sony’s VAIO P netbook. Does it mean the device is coming from Japan. We will keep you updated.
