Other than the BH100 Dual format player, LG also offers GGW-H10N a dual format drive for your PC. The LG GGW-H10N is called by LG as ‘The Super Multi Blue 50GB drive’. It can read Blu-ray Disc, DVD, CD and HD-DVD and write CDs.

The LG GGW-H10N Drive will also be available in the first quarter of 2007.

Pioneer BDC-202 “combo” 5x Blu-ray drive

Pioneer announced the BDC-202 Blu-ray disc drive. The Pioneer BDC-202 can read
BD-ROM, BD-R and BD-RE at 5x and dual layer Blu-ray recordable at 2x. Though it can’t write Blu-ray discs, it can write DVDs and CDs. Expected to be available in second quarter, price is not yet anoounced.

World’s First Terabyte Hard Drive from Hitachi

Hitachi has announced the world’s first Terabyte(TB) hard drive, the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000. The Deskstar 7K1000 has a capacity of 1TB. The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 wil be available to consumer in the first quarter this year with a suggested retail price of $399 (USD). The Deskstat 7K1000 connects through the SATA 3.0Gb/s and PATA-133 interfaces.

Other than the Deskstar 7K1000, Hitachi shows us also the CinemaStar 7K1000 which is also a hard drive with 1TB of capacity. It has “optimized capabilities specifically designed for digital video recording (DVR) applications.” It will features:
* Adaptive error recovery and SMART command transport for optimized video streaming and picture quality
* Smooth Stream Technology to optimize the drive for audio/video applications requiring reliable storage
* “Bedroom quiet” acoustics

the Hitachi CinemaStar 7K1000 hard drive will be available in the second quarter.

Samsung 16GB Solid State Disks goes Mass production Q1 2007

Samsung announced that it is now “sampling its 16-gigabit (Gb) NAND flash memory with customers – the first NAND flash using 50 nanometer (nm) process technology”. Samsung is expected to start the mass production of 16GB NAND falsh memory in Q1 2007.

Long time ago we have seen the Samsung Laptop without hard drive but the Solid State Disks (SSD). With the mass production of 16GB NAND flash memory, probably we can see more similar products in the near future.
