SMART Modular Technologies introduces its XceedIOPS SAS solid state drive that will be used in the planned IBM POWER7 high-performance supercomputer. The 2.5-inch SSD uses latest 34nm Enterprise-grade Multi-Level-Cell (E-MLC) NAND flash technology.

The IBM supercomputer will use these drives to provide substantially higher levels of performance (compared to HDDs), sufficient to meet the critical data management requirements of this system. The XceedIOPS offers extensive error-correction and detection features, multi-level data-path and code protection, data-loss recovery, and active thermal management designed to improve reliability and data integrity. SMART Modular said the SAS SSD can provide five-year minimum operational life even in workload-intensive environments.

Sanyo introduces in the US four new ultra portable projectors for education and business, including PLC-WK2500, PLC-XK3010, PLC-XK2600 and PLC-XK2200. All of them feature long-life lamps with 6,000 hours of service life and new high-efficiency large surface filters that operate 5,500 hours before replacement. With improvements in lamp and filter life, both costs and time required for maintenance are reduced.

The top-of-the-line PLC-WK2500 features 1280×720 WXGA resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 3000:1 contrast ratio and 2500 lumens brightness. The PLC-XK3010, PLC-XK2600 and PLC-XK2200 all have XGA resolution and 2000:1 contrast ratio. They offer 3000 lumens, 2600 lumens and 2200 lumens brightness, respectively.

These Sanyo projectors include the Auto Setup Function and Screen Guidance Functio for easy setup. They have onboard 10-watt audio amplifier and loudspeaker for multimedia preseantion, and RJ-45 wired LAN connection for remote control and monitor. You can find D-sub and S-video inputs.

Coming in November 2010, Sanyo PLC-WK2500 is priced at $995. The PLC-XK3010, PLC-XK2600 and PLC-XK2200 will be released in December for $1145, $995 and $845, respectively.
