Samsung presents the SL720 (aka PL70) and SL502 (aka PL55) entry-level digital cameras. These cameras have 12.2 Megapixel image sensor and 5x optical zoom lens.

The Samsung SL720 features 28mm wide angle, a 3-inch LCD display, ability to record 720p HD video in H.264 format and optical and digital dual image stabilization. The SL502, instead, has a 35mm lens, a 2.7-inch display, and 640×480 video recording.

Canon’s PowerShot SX200 IS is a 12.1 Megapixel camera with 12x optical zoom, 28mm wide angle, 4x digital zoom and optical image stabilization. It offers Face Detection, Blink detection and Smart Auto scene selection functions and is based on DIGIC4 image processor.

It’s a solid, better-than-average performer in most respects, with great zoom range, wide-ranging control options to please everyone from novices to enthusiasts, a lucid interface, 720p video capture, and decent construction. Even with all of this, though, the SX200 comes off as just a little – dare we say it? – boring.

Canon introduces the new PowerShot SX200 IS digital camera with 12x ultra zoom. Canon’s SX200 features a 12.1 Megapixel CCD image sensor, a powerful 12x Optical Zoom lens with 28mm wide angle and optical image stabilization. It has also 4x digital zoom.

Along with the H20, T90 and T900, Sony presents the Cyber-shot DSC-W290 and DSC-W230 entry-level compact digital cameras. Both of them are 12.1 Megapixel cameras. The W290 has a 5x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens while the W230 gets a 4x zoom lens. They have a 3-inch LCD display.

Other than the budget 10x zoom H20, Sony introduces the slim, compact Cyber-shot T90 (pictured above) and T900 compact touchscreen digital cameras. Both T90 and T900 have a 12.1 Megapixel image sensor, 4x Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar optical zoom lens, and functions like Smile Detection, Face Detection,  Intelligent scene recognition (iSCN). Both cameras can record 720p HD video at 30fps.

Sony announced the new Cyber-shot DSC-H20, a budget-priced ultra zoom digital camera. The Cyber-shot DSC-H20 features a 10x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens with 38 – 380 mm (35mm equivalent) focal length. Sony’s H20 has 10.1 Megapixel CCD image sensor, and a 3-inch LCD display.

Other than the C-LUX 2, Leica presents also the new D-LUX 3 compact digital camera. The 10 Megapixel D-LUX 3 camera features a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 6.3–25.2 mm f/2.8–4.9 ASPH lens with 4x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom,, ISO up to 1600, MEGA optical image stabilization, and a 2.8-inch LCD screen.

The Leica D-LUX 3 can record 16:9 1280×720 videos at 15fps or 848×480 at 30fps. If you don’t like 16:9 aspect ratio, you can instead use the D-LUX 3 to capture 4:3 640×480 videos at 30 fps. The D-LUX 3 supports PictBridge and DPOF. It accepts SD and MMC cards.

Like other Leica compact cameras, this D-LUX 3 and the C-LUX 2 are pretty much based on Panasonic’s Lumix cameras.
