Pioneer introduces the BDR-2207, a powerful, full-featured internal optical drive that reads and writes to almost all disc formats, including the BDXL. Supporting the BDXL format, the drive can and write to BD-R and BD-RE Triple Layer (TL) 100GB media and BD-R Quad Layer (QL) 128GB media, and of couese conventional single and double layer recordable Blu-ray discs.

Sony is shipping its sleek BDP-S790 Blu-ray Disc Player with WiFi connectivity. The new model supports playback of Blu-ray Discs, DVD and CD, and sports a dual-core processor for faster response and enhanced performance. Thanks to WiFi, the player can access Sony Entertainment Network for online media streaming, including UltraViolet streaming services powered by VUDU, Netflix, Pandora…etc.

Pioneer announced its new BDR-XD04, which is the world’s smallest and lightest portable Blu-ray/DVD/CD burner with support for BDXL. The ultra compact drive is able to read and write to all BDXL disc formats including BD-R triple-layer 100GB media, BD-R quad-layer 128GB media, and BD-RE triple-layer 100GB media, as well as ordinary Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD media.

Asus introduces a USB 3.0 external Blu-ray burner, the BW-12D1S-U with up to 12x Blu-ray writing speed. The burner uses USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface to double transmission speed compared with USB 2.0 and uses OTS technology to deliver 12x Blu-ray burning speed. It includes support for Blu-ray 3D technology.

Buffalo announced in Japan a new slim external Blu-ray burner, the BRXL-PC6U2-BK with support for high-capacity BDXL media. The BDXL is triple-layer/quad-layer Blu-ray Disc format that offers 100GB/125GB of capacity. Buffalo’s slim burner can write BD-R QL and BD-R TL at up to 4X as well as BD-R, BD-R DL at 6x, BD-RE and BD-RE TL/DL at 2x.

LaCie launches the Slim Blu-ray external USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc writer. The portable drive not only play Blu-ray movies but also let users create and record Blu-ray discs. It write BD-R SL at 6x, BD-R DL at 4x, BD-RE SL/DL at 2X as well as DVD+/-R at 8x, DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x, DVD-RAM at 5x and CD-R/RW at up to 24x.

Plextor releases a new internal 12x Blu-ray disc burner, the PX-LB950SA with 3D Blu-ray support. The writer can burn BD-R single layer at 12x, writing 25GB data is just 12 minutes. It also writes BD-R DL at 8x, BD-RE/BD-RE DL at 2x as well as DVD+/-R at 16X and DVD+/-RW/DL at up to 8x, DVD-RAM at 12x and CD-R/RW at up to 48x.

Sony Optiarc BD-5300S

Sony Optiarc launches the BD-5300S and BWU-500S 12x Blu-ray burners. The former comes in retail branded configuration while the latter is for OEM. These internal Blu-ray writes use standard 5.25-inch form factor and use SATA interface.
