Kyocera announced at the CTIA Wireless 2012 its new Hydro C5170 waterproof Android smartphone. It is IPX5 certified for protection against sprayed water such as rain, and is also IPX7 certified for protection against immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes. The phone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon MSM8655 processor with 512MB RAM and 2GB ROM. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Swype keyboard pre-loaded.

Sprint has just announced the Kyocera Echo, the first dual-touchscreen Android smartphone. Having a form factor like the Nintendo DSi, the Echo comes with two 3.5-inch 800×48- WVGA touchscreen displays connected by a patent-pending “pivot hinge” that enables the two displays to operate independently, side-by-side or combined to form a large 4.7-inch integrated display.

Cricket launches its first Android smartphone, the Sanyo ZIO by Kyocera (aka Kyocera ZIO M6000). The Zio runs Android 1.6. It features a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with video recording, GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi. It supports CDMA2000 1xEV-DO rev. A 3G networks.

During the CTIA Wireless 2010 last month, Kyocera showed its Zio M6000 Android smartphone. To be released in Q2 2010, the Zio features a 3.5-inch 800×480 WVGA multitouch display, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with 30fps video recording, Bluetooth,A-GPS and WiFi connectivity.
