Buffalo announced the new SHD-NSUM series SSD (Solid State Drive) with microUSB 2.0 and SATA-II dual interfaces. Available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities, Buffalo’s 2.5-inch SHD-NSUM series SSD is based on MLC flash memory. According to Buffalo, the new SSD is 30% faster than standard 2.5-inch 5400RPM hard drive.

Toshiba announced the industry’s first 2.5-inch SATA II 512GB SSD, which will be showcased at the CES 2009. The new 512GB SSD is based on 43 nanometer (nm) Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND technology and utilize an advanced MLC controller offering higer read and write speeds.

The new 2.5-inch 43nm MLC-based SSD, including the 512GB one, has a maximum sequential read speed of 240MB per second (MBps) and maximum sequential write speed of 200MBps.

Transcend offers new 2.5-inch Solid State Disks (SSDs), which is available in SATA and IDE interfaces. The storage capacity of these new SSDs ranges from 8GB to 64GB. Both MLC and SLC based SSDs can be found, you can check the list after the break more information.

The SLC-based SATA SSDs offer up to 119MB/s read and 65MB/s write speeds while the SLC-based IDE SSDs read at 57MB/s and write at 41MB/s.
