Nikon CoolPix S500 Camera Reviewed

Trusted Reviews gives us a review on the Nikon CoolPix S500 digital camera. The Nikon CoolPix S500 is a 7 Megapxiel camera with 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. It features an ISO rating up to 2000, a 2.5-inch LCD display, Optical lens shift Vibration Reduction, 26MB internal memory, and a SD card slot supporting SDHC. THe S500 can capture movies in 640×480 resolution at 30fps.

All things considered, I’d have to say that if the CoolPix S500 is Nikon’s attempt to beat Canon at the ultra-compact game then it isn’t entirely successful. While the inclusion of optical image stabilisation in such a small camera is an achievement, and the build quality and appearance of the camera are excellent, the image noise problems, slow focusing and poor low-light performance are major handicaps. If I was looking to buy a 7MP ultra-compact, I don’t think it would be this one.
