Sony Alpha A700 DSLR

October 5th, 2007 by Sze | No Comments | Filed in Camera and Camcorder

Sony Alpha A700 DSLR

This is the Sony Alpha A700 digital SLR camera. A700 features a 13 Megapixel ‘Exmor’ CMOS sensor, an ISO rating up to 6400 and a 3-inch LCD display. It supports CCD-shift dust reduction, Noise reduction and the Super ‘SteadyShot’ system.
Interestingly the one thing the A700 doesn’t have is any form of live view; when we spoke to Sony about this the answer was simple; they believe that the compromises involved in current systems are unsatisfactory, and they won’t implement live view until they can ‘get it right’. Whether the lack of live view has any real relevance in a camera at this level remains to be seen; we doubt it.
After the break are some hands-pics from Engadget.

Olympus E-410 EVOLT Reviewed

June 17th, 2007 by Sze | No Comments | Filed in Camera and Camcorder

Olympus E-410 EVOLT

DPReview has reviewed the Olympus E-410 EVOLT digital SLR. The Olympus E-410 EVOLT features a 10 Megapixel 4/3 type Live MOS sensor, TruePic III image processor, ISO rating up to 1600. The E-410 supports the Live View which allows you to preview the image with the 2.5-inch LCD display.

The Olympus E-410 EVOLT supports both CompactFlash(Type I/II) and xD cards.

Conclusion from DPReview:
After using the E-410 for a couple of months I really grew to like it. The body itself is very light, and - when combined with the plastic-shelled (but otherwise pretty good) 28 - 84 mm equiv. kit lens - makes for a great carry-around digital SLR. We’ve become accustomed to large hand grips, but the E-410’s design works just as well; you just hold it slightly differently (ring and little finger tucked under the body). This slim design looks great but has one trade-off, the size of the battery; the PS-BLS1 may have more specified capacity than those used in the D40X and EOS 400D, but for some reason it just didn’t seem to last as long. This is perhaps down to the combination of occasional use of Live View and the control panel display, but whatever it is I had to get into the habit of putting the battery on charge every evening. …

Nikon D40x DSLR Reviewed

April 18th, 2007 by Sze | No Comments | Filed in Camera and Camcorder

Nikon D40x

TrustedReviews has reviewed the Nikon D40x Digital SLR. Nikon D40x features 10.75 Megapixel CCD image sensor, ISO rating up to 1600, a 2.5-inch LCD display. The D40x suports SD and SDHC memory cards.

Verdict from TrustedReviews:
In the D40x Nikon may finally have got the entry-level DSLR that can give Canon a run for its money while holding off Sony’s advance. It is, by an admittedly narrow margin, a better camera than the EOS 400D in many respects, including the crucial area of overall image quality. It is easy to use, has Nikon’s traditional fantastic build quality, and performs superbly well. If you’re looking for an SLR for under £500 the D40x should be near the top of your list.
