Sony launches in Europe the MDR-DS6500 digital wireless headphones with 7.1-channel digital surround sound. The headphones feature the Virtualphones Technology (VPT) to reproduce the soundstage of multi-channel speakers to create an immersive acoustic space. The technology can create a virtual 7.1-channel soundstage that stretches ‘behind and beyond’ the screen, even if you’re listening to a stereo 2ch or 5.1 channel programme.

Sony introduces two new high-end headphones, the MDR-Z1000 and the in-ear MDR-EX1000. The former sports 50mm HD neodymium sound drivers while the latter gets 16mm drivers.

The Sony MDR-Z1000 is made for audiophiles. It features 5-80,000Hz frequency response, 24ohm impedance, 108dB/mW sensitivity and a removable jack cable with 99.9% 7N OFC purity. It will be available in November for 61950 Yen (US$734).

Sony Marqii MDR-PQ1

Sony introduces the new PIIQ range of headphones, including the Marqii MDR-PQ1, Giip MDR-PQ2, Triqii MDR-PQ3 overhead headphones with closed, dynamic (supra-aural) ear cups, and the Exhale MDR-PQ5 and Qlasp MDR-PQ4 in-ear earbuds.

Sony will launch in 10 October two new overhead headphones, the MDR-370LP and MDR-570LP. The former is an “open-air headphones that comes in sharp colors ideal for young girls while the latter is a full-size headphones in earth-tone colors and comes with aluminum housing.

Sony is going to release its new DR-NC300D noise-cancelling in-ear earphones in Japan. The earphones comes with a in-line controller for selecting noise-cancelling options, General mode, Airplane mode and and Train mode.

Sony Europe introduces the XB series eXtra Bass stereo headphones. In total, there are five models, The MDR-XB700, MDR-XB500, MDR-XB300 and the in ear MDR-XB40EX and MDR-XB20EX.

Sony’s MDR-XB700/500/300 features king-sized ear cushion to reduce sound leakage and provide better sound isolation. The MDR-XB700 has a rugged, extra-large 50mm dome-type driver.

Sony introduces the new MDR-EX36SC headphones that come with a case, which serves also as a speaker. The in-ear Sony MDR-EX36SC has 9-mm drivers. It is available in Japan for about 3700 Yen.
