Seagate’s 750GB external HDD

Seagate will ship its external desktop hard drive with 750GB capacity which is based on 750GB Barracuda 7200.10 next month. The 750GB drive inside runs at 7,200rpm and has 16MB of cache memory. It has an average latency of 4.2ms.

Panasonic has announced the LF-MB121JD Blu-Ray drive for PC. The drive can burn BD discs at 2x speed. Other than BD discs, it also can record DVD+/-R and DVD+RW at 8x speed, DVD-RW at 6X, DVD-RAM at 5X, DVD+/-R DL at 4X speed, CD-R at 24X and CD-RW at 16X speed respectively.

Infineon Quits DRAM Business

Infineon announces that it will quit the DRAM industry and the DRAM business of Infineon will be taken over by a new company called Qimonda. Infineon itself will concentrate on other technologies that it says is not as volatile and unpredictable as DRAM.

Through out the years, the price of RAMs often swing in both directions widely and according to many in the business, ramps in either direction are difficult to predict. The bigger a company is in the DRAM business, the greater the difficulties.
